Rangel

newsday.com:

One interesting notion drawing chatter on the political circuit: That Rangel would retire midterm, with party leaders paving the way for a poll-vexed Gov. David A. Paterson to step in and succeed him in the Harlem congressional seat.

You see the Paterson connection now? But, it won't play out the way they want us to believe. Why would a ranking democrat step aside for a junior congressman? Rangel has a powerful position. They want to squeez him out so that thye can have one of their own in their. If Rangel leaves, Patrson will not step in as committee chair. They know this and Rangel knows this. If Rangel leaves, it will be beacuse they have him cornered, like Jefferson.

Party hack passes baton to party hack. Harlem, like so many New York districts, suffers from historical cronyism. The path to election is through the creepy little election district kingpins, instead of the people directly. Either way Patterson is done as governor. Let's just hope he's not replaced by Guiliani.

I hope this report is incorrect. Enough with the Rangel-Dinkins-Paterson connection. Harlem needs new representation.

I wouldn't crack open any Clicquot just yet. Charlie Rangel isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Let's see what happens after next year, NYS Governor primary (if there is one) at all. At that time Congressman Rangel will make his decision.
