Vacation

The Hollywood Reporter :

The Warner Bros. division is developing a sequel of sorts to the 1983 comedy classic, with David Dobkin attached to produce and possibly direct.

New Line is meeting with writers to write the script but the take is already developed: the story focuses on Rusty Griswold, the son of Clark Griswold, the protagonists of the initial movies and portrayed by Chevy Chase. The younger Griswold is now a father in his own right and takes his family on a road trip vacation.

There will be 'room' for Chevy Chase to make an appearance??! First let me say New Line sucks more than Warner Bros (anybody see that last Final Destination flick??) - and second, you must have Chevy Chase as the lead - he owns this franchise. You know its gonna be weak if they try to plug in some sucker as the new Chevy Chase - you just can't replace him in this franchise.

the Hollywood mantra- when in doubt (and no original thoughts)- remake or sequel !!

I don't see what the big deal is. The original was no Citizen Kane, and it's not like they're butchering a classic.

No great surprise. They say "what goes around, comes around", and that history neatly works itself out in "roughly" 30-year cycles. You be the judge.

Movie (original / remake):
The Longest Yard (1974 / 2005)
The Hills Have Eyes (1977 / 2006)
The Amityville Horror (1979 / 2005)
Dawn of the Dead (1978 / 2004)
The Blob (1958 / 1988)
The Fly (1958 / 1986)
The Thing (1951 / 1982)
Planet of the Apes (1968 / 2001)
The Italian Job (1969 / 2003)
Poseidon (1972 / 2006)
The Pink Panther (1963 / 2006)
The Stepford Wifes (1975 / 2004)
The Out of Towners (1970 / 1999)
Get Carter (1971 / 2000)
When a Stranger Calls (1979 / 2006)
Swept Away (1974 / 2002)
The Wicker Man (1974 / 2006)

Recent "remakes" include:
Halloween, Friday the 13th, Fame, The Taking Of Pelham 123

Planned "remakes" include:
Arthur, Robin Hood, My Fair Lady, Romancing the Stone, Fantastic Voyage, Back to School,
Meatballs, Conan, Death Wish, Footloose, Red Dawn, Westworld, Logan's Run, Starfighter,
Red Sonja, Barbarella.

There are about a dozen TV shows being made into movies (CHIPS, Magnum P.I., The A Team).

What ever happened to originality and creative storytelling..???

Nope...
not more of those tongue, rolling spit sensations...
not a fan of them.

Chevy Chase can't do his own movie?
Why not?
Old people can be funny.

They must have Randy Quaid (or his "descendants"). That was the funniest part of the original, to me anyway.

I had no idea at the time, but the actress who played his daughter was jane Krakowski.

The original was great, the Christmas one was pretty good, the Vegas one was pretty good, but the European one had a few laughs. The original is a total classic, while the other three are worth watching now and again.

The best part on the first one, without a doubt, is when Rusty and Clark and sharing a beer. Clark's glasses fall off his face and he just keeps talking. It's funny not because of what he says, but because Chevy Chase is the only actor who could pull that off so well.

I'll watch more of them.....the premise of going on a vacation with your family is always going to be funny.

I see a lot of movies and this movie is one I will not see, but if they can make a sequel to transformers and twilight this sounds like a good idea.... and that it could make some money... I would like to see a remake of 9 to 5 or even Porkeys

"..would like to see a remake of 9 to 5 or even Porkeys"

yeah, because of all of those unresolved plot twists at the end of porky's 3. a sequel definitely wouldn't be a completely execrable waste of celluloid, not to mention the wasted time and work of a film crew and actors. because the smiling portrait of eisenhower carries so much cache 50 years later, today's youth will almost assuredly know who he is. yes, let's DO make a porky's sequel.

Well it's about time. Can you imagine the kids grown up on a vacation , and then they are grandparents and this kid who was one of the breakfast club nerds is all mature and all but still respects his father. It could send a good message. The young girl could be the same, but she needs a restart of her career so I can't wait until this is released. She is so witty. I hopw this is her new break into leading roles. She could be like Jodi Foster. I love the way his wife played by the exwife of Al Pacino, and I cannot oh, Beverly De Angelo is going to be back. I remember a few years ago telling my sister I am going to marry Al Pacino some day and she got mad ( always jealous) and said he was married to Beverly DeAngelo and they just had twins.) She is good at hitting me out of the park.
Anyway, I always loved the vacation movies and I love this actor Chevy Chase who is so dry and classic. He reminds me of my father, another Libra who always makes you feel intelligent, and then not - until he tells a joke and you finally get it and then you are able to break through his wall of defenses, and find a genius of unending intelligence and artistioc measure. This will be hard to wait for.

Sorry, I wasn't looking when I typed last night. I'd make more sense typing in braille.

The girl who played Audrey in European Vacation, Dana Hill, was amazing. She died much too young, and every time I watch that movie I miss her.

"Christmas Vacation 2 - Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure" had to be one of the worst sequels ever made. Let's hope this sequel has the opposite outcome. One promising statement in the article: 'New Line is taking meetings with writers this week, hoping to make a movie that skews more toward “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” or “Little Miss Sunshine” than “RV” or “Are We There Yet?”'
