Since first opening at the American Museum of Natural History in 1998, the Butterfly Conservatory has been cherished by millions of children and adults alike. It boasts a collection of 500 butterflies, as well as the stunning landscape of tropical flowers and lush vegetation that characterizes its balmy vivarium.

The collection reopens tomorrow, October 10th, and is on view through May 2010.

damn i didn't know these things had eyes that big!

evolution caused that to happen...btw...it's a defense mechanism.

it wasn't by chance they have "eye-like" patterns on their wings.

too bad they didn't photo them with their wings open- that's the most stunning view, visit a real butterfly heaven= south texas and their many wildlife parks
