The German Shepard should have won

Awesome.
I had to euthanize my beautiful chihuahua a couple of days ago (14 yr old). These photos cheered me. And I was reminded how much happiness and purpose our furry friends can bring into our lives--universally. And don't forget the huge benefit they bring to our nation's economy. As to the "green" theme, on the continuum of hobbies where tending an organic garden might be on one end, and riding dirt motorcycles on the other, raising and caring for a pet is only inches from the garden hobby. Taking the dog for a daily walk (twice is better) nourishes the mind and body, can build community, and, provided the owner is responsible, produces no injury whatsoever to the environment .
I am so sorry about your loss of your animal friend. Yes, walking a dog is valuable.
Although it is difficult to ascertain the context of this photo, I would disagree that these dogs are attacking each other. Typical canine behavior can include greeting rituals such as the one that may be shown in this photograph.
In any case, projecting human pathologies of aggression onto canines is unfortunate.
The recent bizarre human insistence of bombing the moon should be proof enough that human aggression is far more senseless than primal canine behaviors designed to assure peaceful functioning within packs.
cairn terriers FTW!
Whoever wrote this has no clue about dogs. The two dogs aren't going "at each others' throat", they are clearly playing.
Bratislava? isnt that where borris and natasha were from? should'nt they be having a moose and squirell show? or as they refer to it in wasilla target practice?
why are they having the show now,,,, Yesterday it was announced BO the first canine won it for his inspiration and great barking
This is not a Green article. Far from it. Dog shows are an exercise in egotism for the breeders.
Pedigreed purebred dogs are bred for the characteristics deemed most desireable to the breed.
This leads inevitably to a weakness, most often neurological, which will appear over time. (snapping, biting, agression, seizures, etc.)
Furthermore, breeders as portrayed in Christopher Guest's hilarious "Best in Show" who each had but one treasured, pampered animal, are the exception to the norm which is that many of these dogs spend their time between shows in kennels and dog runs.
I love dogs, and in fact grew up with purebred family pets, but would never buy one from a breeder now. Indescriminate inbreeding, and I don't care how many papers they show you, will cause you trouble and heartache not to mention Vet bills, down the line.
Spay and neuter your dogs.
A Mutt is always your best bet.
