Washington Post:

President Obama announced in March that he would be sending 21,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. But in an unannounced move, the White House has also authorized -- and the Pentagon is deploying -- at least 13,000 troops beyond that number, according to defense officials.

I'm very much against military involvement where it doesn't advance a positive change; however, there are many tangential aspects to having a military presence in Afghanistan and in Iraq right now -- and I'm sure the president is smart enough to have weighed those during his decision-making. We have a national unemployment rate near 10% right now. So, aside from the hypocrisy of warmongers on the right suddenly decrying the president for not bring troops home, we have to take a look at the other benefits of having them there right now. If Obama redeploys all our troops, how many jobless, potentially homeless and possibly injured vets will this country be able to support during a recession? Right now, the troops over there have jobs and a place to stay -- and as a military brat I definitely laud their service. But, to bring them all back at the same time presents a heavy and debilitating drain on the nation's economy right now. Why do you think Obama's office is so desperate to pass health-care reform? At least with a public option, the economy can be poised for recovery so it can sustain any impact from a massive influx of "unemployed" servicemembers returning home. Not saying this is the case, but it's a possibility that deserves consideration.

All of Obama's mistakes are Bush's fault. All of them.

And don't start calling me republican names. i am far beyond republican democrat brain washed ignorance. I am liberal in some ways and conservative in others and I do not need to be part of a gang to feel solid about myself or share an identity of some leader

Its a wonder I visit huffpo anymore... Reading through the last 4 or 5 pages it's filled with people who don't understand why we went to Afghanistan in the first place.

Why are you so outraged by this when you should be MORE outraged, to this day, that Bush and rumsfeld LET Osama escape not once, not twice, but over three different times?

That they ignored ending terrorism for oil, that they left Afghanistan in such a poor condition. Undermanned, undergeared, and Underfunded.

Yet, Now that we are sending the troops to support already stationed men and women. To properly gear, supply, feed, and take care of them. NOW it's an outraged?

Now Obama's a war monger? You guys make me sick, Go vote republican in 2012, see what it gets you.

I'll stick with the guy trying to end BOTH the wars in a sensible manner.. Pull them out, You guys are MORONS. You pull them out, Terrorists come back and even MORE innocents die.

All because you feel it's WRONG to be there. We don't have a choice, We've got to clean up what we started, and because we took so bloody long mucking in Iraq we have to go it alone.

Unpatriotic buffoons the lot of you. Unshrinkwrap your brains for once, see the bigger picture and why we were there in the first place. Hint there's THREE numbers, One repeats itself. Nine, One, One. Nine Eleven if you don't get it.

There are so few stories on the soldiers and what is happening in Afghanistan. Not only are these young Americans sent in harms way, they are treated like they don't exist. Bring them home, this is on Obama's watch. Enough war mongering.

By Ron Paul | Texas Straight Talk
And how will public support be brought back around to supporting this war again when 58 percent are now against it?
Another thing that war does is create anger with its indiscriminate violence and injustice. How many innocent civilians have been harmed from clumsy bombings and mistakes that end up costing lives? People die from simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time in a war zone, but the killers never face consequences. Imagine the resentment and anger survivors must feel when a family member is killed and nothing is done about it. When there are no other jobs available because all the businesses have fled, what else is there to do, but join ranks with the resistance where there is a paycheck and also an opportunity for revenge? This is no justification for our enemies over there, but we have to accept that when we push people, they will push back.
The real question is why are we there at all? What do our efforts now have to do with the original authorization of the use of force? We are no longer dealing with anything or anyone involved in the attacks of 9/11. At this point we are only strengthening the resolve and the ranks of our enemies. We have nothing left to win. We are only there to save face, and in the end we will not even be able to do that.

This is what really gets me! Ron Paul is obviously the rare and only rational thinking compassionate person in government whether democrat or republican and he was marginalized and swift boated to seem a k00k or worse. And why because the American people are so easily swayed by anything and they have abandoned the idea that ethics and honor are a virtue! You dismiss a Man on the grounds of your own ignorance. And a man that is trying to help you because what he values is morally correct. And the rest of you value brutality aggression duplicity and dishonesty

13,000 more human beings.

I would like it better if Steve Jobs sent over 26,000 new I-phones for those Afghanistan citizens aged 9-19; that's change I believe in!

Its true No one today wants to call a spade a spade. if we did not have to suffer all this political correctness we could have identified bush types as the s0si0paths they are and would be able to deem them unfit! but the problem is if we did this anyone could be labeled mentally unfit for having an opinion! so as the republicans learned all you have to do is ruin your opponents public persona with innuendo as to there character flaws and public opinion gets swayed against them! the rest of use not devious do not engage in that and so we sit at a disadvantage! but to expose the mental states as unhealthy and duplicitous needs to now be used to protect society from these sort of people!

No.

However, since he has decided not to end it - and even make it larger - it is now his.

If he had ended it, no, no this, and if he took his time ending it, it's less clear but not a certainty that "it's his."
