Some of these towns are offering energy retrofits; others furnish free parking to fuel-efficient hybrid cars. Yet others are limiting or banning the use of fertilizers to avoid chemicals leaching into the groundwater, or imposing strict energy efficiency requirements for new homes.

Please check out my family; they have been working on energy efficient upgrades in their home in suburban Plano, Texas, NONSTOP over the past 3 months. They’re obsessed :) I am so proud of them. If you can please vote for them in a TXU contest for the Texas family who has put the most effort to save energy. They have already made it to top 3 in Texas! You can vote here : http://psc.gotxu.com/vote. Thank you!

No such thing as a 'green' suburb. No matter how you spin it.

I live in a town that is fastly becoming a city close to a couple of larger cities. Yes it is a suburb and yes it is allowing mega blights on the landscape with huge housing projects, huge houses, huge ugly fortressess, large box apartments and NO solar panels, no real "green" going on at all. First they dispose of all things green or alive, flatten the earth, build pretencious homes, pave over the rest. Their is no infra structure, non stop all day long traffic jams and the aquifir is being threatened. No parks really either...what the mayor gets credit for is that some less than intelligent life form said "ah good town in which to retire". The furthest thing from reality on earth. Leduck is right...a suburb is not green. Single drivers in too many cars stream through this place constantly. In and Out. Nope..not green, no idea of becoming green and yet, they claim they are. I know..we do recycle.

this article is funny. there's nothing green about suburbs. they are not sustainable. unless this town is located near a passanger train stop..., forget it.
PEAK OIL will eventually kill the car. and when cars are gone....
suburbs are not built around feet and subways and light rail.

the only thing i can say about suburbs, is that at least they are not exurbs.

this article is about false hope

We are so broke in New Hampshire we wont give hybrids free parking.
Parking rates have gone up all over.
