Few athletes have converted their exploits on the playing field into such an exalted status as John Elway. In retirement, the Broncos legend has become the most universally loved public figure in Colorado, and it's not even close.

Through the years, Elway had converted his near-deity status into some golden--and some less impressive--commercials.

In honor of Elway's latest--a national security video shown when top law enforcement came to town last week--we've assembled some of his best work.

John Elway may have been an accomplished football player but don't forget he and Rush Limbaugh are good buddies. I was always taught you are judged by the company you keep and if that's the case John doesn't measure up to well in a lot of areas that are a lot more important than football.

I don't want to upset any fellow Coloradoans, but -

"the most universally loved public figure in Colorado" ??? OH PLEASSSSEEE!!! Where do you guys get this stuff? Elway is so last century.

Sure, he is a "football hero," but he is also perceived as a very rich ex-athlete who divorced his wife and the mother of his 4 children for someone half his age after she saw him through many years of defeat.

Regardless, he sure isn't done trying to make more and more millions based on a successful football career.. As far as the commercials, who cares?

Bring it on, sportsfans.
