Obama Hosts Zapatero, Celebrates Latin Music On Tuesday

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama welcomes Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero (zah-pah-TEH'-roh) to the White House on Tuesday.

The two leaders will have a working lunch.

In the evening, the president and first lady Michelle Obama, along with Vice President Joe Biden and Jill Biden, will attend a "Fiesta Latina" concert celebrating Hispanic musical heritage on the South Lawn.

The president will deliver brief remarks at the start of the concert. Among the artists expected are Marc Anthony, Jimmy Smits, Gloria Estefan, Jose Feliciano, George Lopez, Los Lobos and Sheila E.

The event will be televised later on public broadcasting stations, along with Spanish-language networks Telemundo and V-me.

BTW, not to be pedantic or anything, but having studied in Salamanca I am 100% sure that the Spanish President's surname ZAPATERO is pronounced "Thah-pah-TAY-ro". The 'z' has a 'th' sound in Spain.

I agree. Kids are kids and they are going to experiment with different things. Clothes are the least of it! Kids should be off limits. Only a dolt would pick on the children of a politician.

okay, so the Spanish president and Latin music being combined is a whopping ooooooppps moment....

that said, i absolutely LOVE these "evenings of the arts & sciences" they are hosting in the White House! from jazz and country music, to poetry and astronomy, i just think it is so wonderful that they are spotlighting such important and valuable disciplines. especially since so many arts programs are the first things to get cut in public schools. these events feel like a special celebration of American art forms and talented Americans celebrating universal arts/sciences.

I remember you said Obama told you how offended he was. Perhaps all leaders should leave their children home when they travel on official business. You never know whose children might offend another world leader... OR "some" leaders could get thicker skins and not be so shallow.

Most heads of states travel with their kids but the Zapateros are the only ones who allow their children to come dressed like the cast of Les Miserables! LOL!
