Conan may be fake feuding with Newark Mayor , but plenty of his predecessors have feuded with fellow comics for real. What happens when two funny and fiery people fight? Find out below!

Jay Leno Vs. David Letterman

When Jay Leno was selected to replace Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, his feud with David Letterman got so heated they made a movie about it. Not only has Letterman always felt like the rightful "heir" to Johnny Carson's seat, but he and Leno's shows fought for ratings until Conan O'Brien took over The Tonight Show this year. A fairly recent New York Magazine Blog says the feud is still going on, since Letterman failed to respond to a letter sent to him by Leno during his open heart surgery. Not to mention the fact that Dave has talked about the "10p slot" every day since Jay got it.

Impossible to sit through a minute of Denis Leary when you've heard the exact same material (only funnier, kinder, more insightful, honest, and intelligent) from Bill Hicks.

Never understood the Leno/Letterman feud. Letterman's funny. Leno's...not, often painfully. Letterman should learn to be content in his very obvious superiority.

This Letterman/Leno thing seems to be all Letterman and his peeps. If you go on Leno - no Letterman for a 3 weeks. So many movie people go on Letterman first (before the movie opens than Leno.

Leno reached out many times, Letterman zip.

I just read the David Cross to "Larry the Cable Fellow".

He's my new hero.

David Cross, that is - not the other guy.

While joke stealing is time honored (Milton Berle was famous for it) Mencia is much worse:

Ahh, Norm MacDonald... never met a bridge he couldn't burn. He pissed off some of the wrong people and it basically ruined his career. His snit with Chris Kattan was minor, though it is rather humorous (though I think it underscores the general friction SNL had between the stand-ups and the sketch comedians).

here's a link to a second-hand account of what the MacDonald/Kattan feud was about, as told by Jim Breuer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q2VhQ8r5Nc (Kattan stories kick in at 2:10)

Saw Mencia a few years ago during the Traveling Virus Tour. He was booed during most of his set. Louie C.K. and Jim Norton killed so it was not the audience.

David Cross is DEFINITELY funnier. Really, to be funnier than Larry the Cable Guy you only need to be funny at all. David Cross is WAY funny.

There will be a Bill Hicks movie some day. And Russell Crowe will star in it. Those guys were freakin' separated at birth by an angry Kangaroo.

Hicks and Leary were both very funny... But I will say for sheer confrontational performance art, Bill was leading the way (despite all the paranoid conspiracy woo-woo) and Leary was merely a follower. A follower who seemed to borrow HEAVILY.

Forgot about David Cross versus Jim Belushi. Oh, wait... Jim Belushi isn't funny enough to be a comedian.

I kid, I kid.

Bill Hicks, rest in peace, is a comedy God. As a talent and mind, no one in this group comes close to touching him.

But, somewhat surprisingly, Joe Rogan, I have to say, has a lot of guts and integrity, and I take my hat off to him.

True that is. George Carlin and Lewis Black are the only ones on the same level, and they never got in to "Celebrity Feuds."

Get David Cross's book " i drink for a reason". Better yet, get the audio book. He has an entire section dedicated to "the feud" and how he feels that calling him PC is absurd. and David, as most good liberals do, counters the cable guy's "I'm not telling anti-gay jokes" with ... you guessed it.. facts. He quotes a number of "larry's" jokes which are clearly homo-phobic. A fun read. Cat's was better, but a fun read. I really like Larry the Cable guy, but he is as real as Stephen Colbert or Joe the plumber.

David Cross is a racist! There I said that to ensure that David Cross actually reads this post! Thanks for the great book David!
