Black Ministers Back Stroger For Re-Election, Urge Racial Unity

Chicago Sun-Times:

About 100 African-American ministers gave embattled Cook County Board President Todd Stroger their much-anticipated endorsement for re-election today, saying black voters must stay "united" or risk losing the government seats they hold.

I'm black and a liberal, but I am NOT voting for him! period

NO SIR

He is incompetent! !

Any politician that would impose a 10.25% sales
tax during one of the worst recessions in since
the great depression isn't smart enough to run this
county! He doesn't understand that the county
is actually losing revenue because of the sales tax!

I am willing to bet that people looking to purchase
automobiles during the cash for clunkers federal program actually
purchased more cars in the collar counties than in Cook County
because of the 10.25% sales tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


Not mention I am personally tired of nepotism in
State, County and City governments....and Tod
Stroger is the poster boy for why nepotism is a bad
way to govern......

Seriously? As a black woman living in Chicago, and an agnostic (therefore I don't give a sh*t what preachers say or think) I can guarantee Stroger will NOT get my vote. I can't believe they are trying to push out other black candidates so that the black vote won't split (it won't anyway, because most PEOPLE [regardless of color] detest Stroger) giving a white guy the edge. Flip that message around and most of these preachers would have a friggin' heart attack. This is racism and I will not participate. Stroger needs to throw in the towel. I really hope other, more qualified, candidates won't be swayed by this nonsense. Gawd this makes me mad.

Agree. This is the ultimate in race based hypocrisy. Don't these "men of god" have real concern for their communities, the finacial security of the County and honest, efficient government.? If not, they're part of the problem.

Cronyism and the sales tax have doomed Stroger.

Cronyism is a fine old tradition here in Chicago
so I place less value you on that part as I do
the 10.25% sales tax.....

Chicago the second city yet it has the highest sales tax
in the country? why? If Tod Stroger had any managerial
skills he would have left the sales tax alone and cut
staff and other things to bring the budget in line
but he has NO managerial skills, that combined
with his smug very detached demeanor during times
whereas property owners are feeling the squeeze
and regular citizens are losing their homes and jobs
just shows he is out of touch with the citizens of
this county!

Also the black community is suffering as much as any
other, so imagine what the high sales tax is doing there!

I predict he will lose in a landslide! .........

His father was a good man but Tod is definately not
like his father!

THIS IS EMBARRASSING!! AN ABSOLUTE MOCKERY OF THE BLACK CHURCH, BLACK VOTERS AND AN INSULT TO COOK COUNTY RESIDENTS! WE ARE NOT GUESSING WHETHER OR NOT STROGER, JR WOULD BE A GOOD ADMINISTRATOR AS COUNTY BOARD PRESIDENT, WE HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED HIS INCOMPETENCE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A SIGNED ENDORSEMENT WITH ALL THE NAMES OF THESE SO CALLED RELIGUOUS LEADERS SO I CAN KNOW JUST WHO ARE THESE FRAUDS.

those ministers aren't frauds
they are just showing a misguided
allegence for a failed politician
it's done all the time....

but their solidarity will fall on deaf
ears because Tod Stroger is viewed
as a man who owes his position
to the good will sewn by his father
and not because of anything he has ever done.....

This encouragement to vote solely based on race - regardless of how flawed the candidate - is very, very unfortunate. I thought we were getting passed this.

Just look at all those ministers behind Stroger. What a sight to be seen.

They were nowhere to be found in the news when kids died on the streets of Chicago because of gang violence.
