What's Your Reaction?

Shocking video of the brutal beating of Jack Price has been released just as news of a second arrest in the case was announced.

Daniel Rodriguez was taken into custody in Norfolk, VA Tuesday night. He had eluded police since his alleged partner in crime Daniel Aleman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault as a hate crime on Sunday.

Police say the suspects perpetrated the unconscionable beating early Friday morning after yelling anti-gay slurs at Price at a deli near his College Point home.

Price suffered a broken jaw, fractured ribs, a lacerated spleen, and the "collapse of both of his lungs." He identified his attackers before being placed in a medically-induced coma.

The video shows the men repeatedly punching and stomping Price as he tries to fend off his attackers. At one point in the video, a car that looks to be a livery taxi drives right by the assault without stopping.

After the suspects leave him bloodied in the middle of the street, the 5-foot-6, 130 pound Price can be seen miraculously stumbling away.

Aleman was being held on $20,000 bail Tuesday and charges are pending against Rodriguez.

Republicans feel unfairly treated when we group them together and would probably be first in line for legislation if republicans were persecuted for just being republican. Yet they bring guns to rallies, protect corporations over rape victims, start and defend unwarranted wars and claim reverse racism as defense against their own racist actions.

We need hate crime legislation to protect us from republicans.

An Evangelical "Christian's" Night-time Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray to God my soul to keep
I voted for Bush the Texacutioner
Who put more people to death than an executioner

The highest execution rate of any governor in history
How he was elected president is still a mystery
The biggest serial killer since Timothy McVeigh,
mocks Karla's pleas for clemency during her final days

I hold stoutly to my world view
Despite being contradicted by what is proven true
I believe the earth to be only 4000 years old
“Intelligent” design is the view I hold

Even though evolution explains how life changed and adapted
verified by countless experiments not retracted
the scientific facts should be stricken as inadmissible
teaching creationism to our children is permissible

Take some parts literally, others out of place
And I can use the Bible to judge the whole human race
Pat Robertson said 9/11 was a punishment from God
That innocents died instead of him he didn’t find odd

For lifestyles of feminism, liberalism, and being gay
Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson said over 3,000 people died that day
That God will punish them for their remark
Pride has hidden from a judgmental heart

.poem continued in next post

An Evangelical "Christian's" Night-time Prayer continued

“After the last tree standing is felled”
“Christ will come back” I heard James Watt tell
you see evangelicals don’t care about generations
because they won’t have to be here to face elimination

“compassionate” conservatives fantasize about journeying through the air
As Left Behind: The Series plays out below everywhere
While pollution they caused brings about ecological collapse
It doesn’t bother them that people will die perhaps

God help Mr. Price and grant him a speedy recovery. As for Aleman and Rodriguez, show them as much mercy as they showed Mr. Price: none. Prosecute and sentence them to the fullest extent of the law as a consequence of their disrespect for human life.

I've often been told by gay marriage ban proponents that gays are cowards for going to the courts for their rights, fearing a public vote.

Two points:

1. Given that the sentiment felt by these two thugs is very common, why would we trust our civil rights in the hands of the general public?

and

2. Anyone who accepts who they are and openly lives that personal truth EACH AND EVERY DAY, despite perpetual, often very unpredictable, risk of attacks such as this, is most certainly not a coward.

Just plain evil.
Best wishes that Mr. Price makes a complete and rapid recovery.
Here is hoping that the assailants are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. They are sad excuses for human beings.

This is the result of a wink and a nod from those who wish to maintain the status quo of Gays without rights: Fired from the military, from jobs, denied housing all because a person is gay.
We have seen this brutality accepted in our schools and in the streets.
Republicans are very slow and behind on this. History never rewards the haters. The people who STAND UP and say enough!... these are the people that history celebrates.
Not the hate parades with shameful placards, but real people who have faced real discrimination who say enough is enough: we are good people.
I have had it with those who would not only dismiss my family, but are actively working to deny us the same rights the rest of Americans enjoy.
HOW DARE the reoublican party treat me as though I have no humanity and right. that will never be forgottem. ever.
NEVER again, will I stand silent when a gay person is nearly killed. GOT THAT?

And these right wing A-holes don't think that what they say has no consequences? I doubt these particular thugs care about any national debate, but there are the hatemongers that do. Republicans don't want us to be protected in society at any level. This is what happens when people have no protection. Was he supposed to fight these pricks? If there were automatic prison sentences for pisteqas like these, that would aleviate some of the bashing that goes on. Congress, Obama, and the SCOTUS need to send consistent messages that this behavior is not tolerable in our society. It's the fault of Congress, but the other branches can do their part to protect all of us from hate crimes.

Primarily, the GOP is led by white, privileged heterosexuals who have no desire whatsoever to try to understand the true nature of homosexuality or to examine how their own carelessness with words and with deeds contribute to the rise of this kind of violence.

This past year, violent crimes such as these increased by 7%, on the national level, and it's not a coincidence. It is the direct result of anti-gay sentiment and rhetoric coming from the right wing.

Look at the appalling "Values Summit." It was a homophobe lovefest.

The GOP contributes to this violence and is, of course, vehemently opposed to hate crimes legislation that exist to protect gay people. The GOP denying that it is "The Party of Hate" has become laughable. And it would be truly laughable were not this such a serious issue.

Just as many of them wouldn't mind if some nutbag tried to assassinate the President, some of them don't mind hearing of "some fa*" getting the crap kicked out of him.

This video is disturbing at least. Of course any crime where one person attacks another is a "hate crime", especially when the person is being attacked because of color, race, religion, origin, or orientation, but for way too long it is believed that LGBT people are thought as "fair game", and anything less than human. I say, put yourself in the victims shoes as each punch is received, each kick received, as each bone is broken and the moment that you feel your consciousness slip away..... and then say that this is not a hate crime....

How did they determine this man was beaten specifically because of his sexual orientation?
