Glenn Beck Cries AGAIN On Air, Pining For A Simpler Time In America (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Glenn Beck was in the middle of pining for a 'simpler time' in America when he decided the best way to illustrate this idea was to show two advertisements from said 'simpler time.' One was a classic Coca-Cola ad, the other a Kodak ad.

These examples of Americana were so moving to Beck that he just couldn't help himself; he begin to tear up (not for the first time). His monologue, which was interrupted a few times by his tears, began with the wisdom that politicians can't take us back to that simpler time; they can only take us farther away. It then devolved into a strange and extended analogy of America as a teenage kid who got dragged to a party he didn't really want to go to, and where his friends poured beer on him, and that ended with dad doing what's right.

Discuss in the comments whether Beck is making any sense at all.

A simpler, cleaner, better time in America, before Glenn Beck. It would be nice to go back.

For petes sake will someone section this guy. Before he climbs a tower, carrying a rifle and wearing a clown mask! Come to think of it, ol' Glen don't need no clown mask.
As an Irishman may I say. "ONLY IN AMERICA!".

To use a commercial with disco playing in the background struck me as funny. This was the hayday of cocain use and self indulgence. I had expected to see a clip from the fifties or sixties. If Keith Olberman cried on the air even once, these neocos would be having a field day, and calling in to question his masculinity. But, it did give me my first laugh of the day.

Screeching promotes needless complexity.

Mr Beck's best contribution towards ending this intolerable state of affairs would be to step in front of a moving train.

Good memories always feel good to us, but that's because we forget the hard and painful aspects of the time. This is pure nostalgia for when "daddy knew best", the white man - captain of industry - ruled the day, and the world looked to America (partly because we twisted alot of arms) for all the answers.

A time before we saw the Earth from space, and from the moon, as a big blue marble, our fragile place in the cosmos, showing no national boundaries only humanity. Yes, Glenn, perhaps for some it was a better time.

This guy is just embarassing. It boggles my mind that people find his patented brand of 'rant, waffle and cry' appealing. Its unseemly in its delivery and absurd in its content. Talk about a bridge to nowhere.

Its so silly to weep for an idealised yesterday, as if there were nothing good in the world of today. Coming from Beck it seems less an outpouring of geniune nostalgia, than a cynical appeal to the radically regressive elements of the (largely religious) Right who wish to wind back the clock.

Hey, Glenn......

As soon as I finish my time machine I'd like to take you for a ride.

Suck it up, Beck ! Add some power to your pucker (reference to an old ad). These are the good old days !

Glenn wants us to go back to 1954 were "the gays" were hiding in the closet, woman had to risk death to get an abortion, and "the coloreds"had to ride in the back of the bus. Just make sure Glenn can still get his coke and weed

"America we've been at a party that we weren't supposed to be at."

Would that party you were referring to be the party that Bush admitted Wallstreet has been in? :

"There's no question about it. Wall Street got drunk ---that's one of the reasons I asked you to turn off the TV cameras -- it got drunk and now it's got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments."

About your analogy, I imagine that is exactly your personality GB...blaming everyone else for YOUR actions, "they PROMISED they would leave by midnight." At what point are YOU responsible? Did your friends tie you to a tree? You can't pick up a phone and call home for a ride? Your analogy is a cop-out for little whiner, finger-pointers "it's not me, it's everyone else" crybabies. But thanks....I'll use this video as an example to my sons to be MEN and accept responsibilty for their OWN actions.
