What's Your Reaction?
Palin

A new poll from Gallup reveals that Sarah Palin's approval rating has plummeted to an all-time low.

According to the survey, the former vice presidential candidate maintains a 40% favorability rating, the lowest it has been since she emerged as a national political figure at last year's Republican convention. Over the course of Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) presidential campaign Palin's "image suffered," declining from a 53% rating when she debuted as the senator's running mate to a 42% rating by the end of the campaign.

Gallup's findings emerge in light of the highly-anticipated release of Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life." Buzz in the political realm suggests that Palin could run for president in 2012, but it seems that the conservative sensation faces a steep upward battle to broaden her viability and appeal.

"They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan." --Sarah Palin, speaking at a fundraiser in San Francisco, Oct. 5, 2008

"[T]hey're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom." --Sarah Palin, getting the vice president's constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does, Oct. 21, 2008

"I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can't.'" --Sarah Palin, as quoted by former City Council Member Nick Carney, after he raised objections about the $50,000 she spent renovating the mayor's office without approval of the city council

"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country. And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make." --Sarah Palin, July 4, 2009 (because you're a special snowflake, Sarah)

"That was fun!" --Sarah Palin, conducting an interview after pardoning a turkey for Thanksgiving while other turkeys were slaughtered in the background, Nov. 20, 2008 (ok, I'm sorry, but... you're an awful person. Period.)

40 percent actually sounds high to me. This is among a cross section of political orientations? Roughly, if you say fifty percent of those surveyed are Republicans, and forty percent of whole still like her, we are talking about 80 percent of Republicans. That seems crazy to me, given all that has gone on in that party.

Help me understand this.

Gee, has the public finally waken up to the fact that she is NOT presidential material ?

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:32 AM on 10/20/2009

Not only is she not presidential material, she isn't governor material, she should just go back to Alaska and never be heard from again.

40%... Of the country? Of the nutties in Alaska? Of Republicans? You've got to give us more than this, and if it's 40% of the country I'm about to go and cry.

I'd love to say something like 'Who's Sarah Palin?'

But the fact that even after weeks without significant news she STILL has 40% frightens the heck out of me.

WHAT IS THIS?

WHEN will a senior republican stand up and say: listen folks, this lady is a joke. There's no way we can let her run for president. It's impossible. The sheer irresponsibility of this drives me insane.

Take every single republican, one by one and ask them: can you in your right mind consider the possibility of Sarah Palin as the leader of the free world? And if not, why don't you say it?

What's going on here? An entire generation of republican politicians has ZERO credibility for this fact alone. When will they realize this?

Palin's 40% approval is still better than Nancy Pelosi only enjoys a 34% approval rating in liberal California as reported by The Hill. Even the Daily Kos' obviously biased survey only has Harry Reid with a 36% approval in Nevada.

How is it that Sarah Palin, who every makes fun of, has a higher approval rating than the House and Senate leaders? Hmmm. Seems Palin is more respected than many in our party would like to admit.

GOP Brand Has Declined Since Obama Took Office, According To New Polling Data

Despite spending the last 9 months battering the president’s agenda, the Republican Party has neither gained any traction with voters nor has it appreciably damaged the Democratic brand.
A Democratic source noted, on Monday morning, that the aggregate polling data for how voters list their party affiliations has remained remarkably steady since the Obama administration took office. If anything, the GOP’s appeal has worsened.

In late January, a USA Today/Gallup poll recorded 27 percent of respondents saying they identified with the Republican Party, 36 percent with Democrats and 25 percent as unaffiliated or independent. Now in mid-October, the average data compiled from dozens of surveys over more than a year shows Republican ID at 22.5 percent, Democratic ID at 33.7 percent and Independent ID at 35 percent.

you make an interesting point, however I think I can explain. Reid and Pelosi are actually elected politicians with a track record of federal service. They have been held up as the poster-children of liberalism for many years and as such have had a target on their backs for a very long time. People made up their minds to hate them a long time. Palin on the other hand is a complete newcomer - no one knew who she was 14 months ago. Sure, plenty of people make fun of her - she's a quitter, a hypocrite and a nitwit, but she is a babe in the woods compared to all the Reid's and Pelosi's in the world.

Palin has a better approval rating than Pelosi because Palin has never had to actually do anything. Anytime a public figure has to actually make policy they risk making people angry.

Palin is younger and better looking than Pelosi which is a sad commentary about our society.

Your comparison is specious.

I know a Special Needs teacher who has the enthusiastic support of 100% of her class. That would be a 100% approval rating. It doesn't mean I'd want her to lead the country.

So, is it time to stop keeping her in the public eye where she has no reason to be there?

Yes, it is time. In fact, it was time the day she quit her day job with the State of Alaska.

I am appauled by all the sexist attacks on Sarah Palin. She is an intelligent and accomplished mother and American success story. Some people don't want a woman to succeed. Just like Hillary Clinton who had much more experience than Barack Obama, but was tossed aside because Obama was a man. Sexism must stop now.

Bullcrap. Palin is NOT bright, NOT articulate, and certainly does not speak for me... and I'm a woman. Enough of this fake outrage at so-called sexism when it comes to this woman. She's substandard by any measurement (excepting that she's easy with a wink and snark), has no interest in furthering anything progressive, is an anti-intellectual, has no grasp on reality, issues or big picture concerns, has said and done things to undermine women's credibility in the public sphere simply by being a member of that space, and is a retro-anti-feminist. Don't try to spin this as sexism. This is a human response to a laughable but dangerous person.

I'm pro-feminism and think Sarah dear has several missing spaces in her cranium. Bluntly, she's just plain dumb. And narcissistic like crazy. To take it even further, I disliked Hillary, too, but mainly because she is just too mean.
If you vote for a person just because of what's between their legs, I'd say your standards are kindof small. One day there will be a woman who runs for president who has the talent, brains, compassion, and consideration that Obama has. Until then, well, we can just dream on....

You're right - some people don't want women to succeed. But many of us do - except for Palin; she's a nitwit, quitter, hypocrite and a B. We definitely do not want her to succeed.

"She is an intelligent and accomplished mother and American success story."

1. "As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border." --Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS's Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008

2. "I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out." --Sarah Palin, referring to a department that does not exist while attempting to explain why as president she wouldn't be subjected to the same ethics investigations that compelled her to resign as governor of Alaska, ABC News interview.

3. "We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. ... We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation." --Sarah Palin, speaking at a fundraiser in Greensoboro, N.C.

4. "Ohh, good, thank you, yes." --Sarah Palin, after a notorious Canadian prank caller complimented her on the documentary about her life, Hustler's "Nailin Paylin,"

You must be joking! She is neither intelligent nor an accomplished mother, and if you think she is an American success story, well you've obviously set the bar very low.

There are 52 seated governors yet we're talking about HER? The media should drop her. She's a has been that never was and never had a thing to contribute anyway.
