What's Your Reaction?

On ""Real Time" Friday night, Bill Maher decided to end his show by mocking all the Republicans who have become prime targets for jokes now that George Bush is no longer front and center. "It turns out there were plenty of ridiculous Republicans behind him that we just couldn't see," Maher said. "His stupid star doth shone too brightly."

Actually, he is pompous, silly and immature. I do not see how he fills a studio audience, much less stays on the air.

Oh, I could not disagree more. This guy is a great comedian (love his New Rules for a strong laugh) and he is actually into common sense when showing his serious side. He is an individualist. He doesn't join the crowd for the sake of it. Yes, he is forceful on his show but so is Fox News! He has some great guests. I am not a "ditto" fan, but I am not a "ditto" fan of anyone's. I am an individualist myself. I do get frustrated with his TV show because I often want to hear more from his interesting guests. Do take your flu vaccine if you want to!!

He can be funny, but he is also fairly ignorant about issues yet he pushes his viewpoint. I'm RUNNING out for the H!N! vaccine for my child. Thank god this guy doesn't have kids.

That, and the whole "doctors colluding with patients' thing were really weird to me this week.. People aren't standing in line to get unnecessary tests.. He's just one of those people in good health who doesn't know what it's like to be sick (just like the people on the other side of this debate who for some reason don't want those people to get 'free' healthcare).

Bill has completly blown my mind with his rant about vaccines! He sounds like Tom Cruise ranting about psychiatry. That is, completely ignorant, and totally opinionated.

Exactly.... It's HIS opinion, and he's said that just about every time he talks about it. You're in serious trouble if you're making your health decisions based on what Bill says.

I hope Bill has seen that the White House is issuing an order to the justice dept. to stop pursuit of medical marijuana use. He complained about Obama endlessly this past "season". I suppose/hope the president's effort in this area will change his mind at least a little. I was very disappointed in Real Time at this point, and getting burned out on Bill. Oh yes, his rants the last few weeks about vaccines was stupid. I have a teenage son and hope I can get him the vaccine. If this guy had kids he'd see it very differently, but he is narcissistic and can't see past his own nose.

Speaking of stoopid stars shining brightly...

...pick an event in US history that will bring up thoughts of patriotism...nevermind that the event in no way relates to your current political views. Initiate your first major demonstration by supporting mass littering. Then accept the overtly pornographic name 'teabaggers' proudly.

Note...the Boston Tea Party had nothing to do with teabags...teabagging is a sexual act...and if you wanted to attack taxation without representation, well it has been going on under ever president since Wilson, regardless of their political slant.

This is not just a stoopid star...these are shooting sstoopid stars.

Is the ability to take list of notable people and calling them names considered good comedic talent these days? Would have been a lot funnier if he'd bothered to point out a singular failing (and there are so very many from which to choose) from each of them, and made fun of that.

But this? I'd expect to hear better on a schoolyard playground. You're slipping, Bill.

Is taking a list of notable people and calling them names all he was doing?

You make it sound like EVERY clip of his needs to be of him pointing out a singular failing. (like he doesn't do that enough).

Maher likes to dish it out, but he can't take it. Did anyone notice how much time he spent defending himself from the NYT attack on his previous commentary on flu vaccines? He also seemed quite defensive when called out by Alec Baldwin. Maher is great at pointing out when others make "batsh*t" crazy comments, but he can't handle the responses to his own "batsh*t" crazy comments.

I was previously unaware of his position on vaccinations. I agree with him on a lot of things, but he doesn't seem to have any problem wearing blinders where his pet issues are concerned.

I agree, he was on the defensive immediately and continuously. He usually tries to inject humor into many of the especially heated topics, but he just seemed pissy that Baldwin and Matthews were disagreeing with him. Honestly, he seemed rather distracted.

I'm sure you're exceedingly gracious when someone calls YOU out...right? He seemed to be taking the criticism pretty well, considering...he knows his position on vaccines isn't the most popular, and he just wanted people to acknowledge that perhaps there was more to talk about...the thing is, people were ACTING like he was batsh*t crazy for his views on vaccines, but he wasn't even close, and you know what, if someone was acting like I was crazy for having a non-mainstream view on something, I would be pretty annoyed too. You don't have to agree with him (I don't even agree on this particular issue), but to say he was saying crazy things and super-sensitive about it is missing the point and distorting the issue to make Maher look worse.

The thing is, he needs to apply his own standard to himself. He is right to call out the lunacy of the global warming deniers and the creationists who keep on insisting that "it still needs to be studied."

Well, no. No, not really. Vaccinology has been around for a long time and we understand a lot about it. The fact that he brings up the swine flu vaccine from the 70s indicates that for all his talk about how there should be "more discussion," he doesn't actually want to participate by, you know, doing his homework.

Ignorance can be cured. What will it take for him to say, "I was wrong"?

I know several doctors who are not getting the swine flu vaccine because they feel that it hasn't been tested long enough. So Bill's position on this isn't so much batsh!t crazy as people are saying.

When Bill Maher showed up at a Halloween party dressed as Steve Irwin with a barb in his chest right after Steve Irwin died, I knew then that Maher's sense of decency and his judgement were severly flawed. You talk of Fox being the "voice" of the Republicans, keep letting Maher and Garafollo (sp) speak for the Democrats.

He's a comedian during his monolgue and the "New Rules" segment, but the remaining content of his show includes discussions of topical issues that aren't meant to be comedic. Maher can't hide behind the "I'm only a comedian" curtain when he tackles serious issues such as climate change, flu vaccinations, etc. That argument is a canard.
