GOP Gaining Advantage In 2010

Elephant And Donkey

washingtonpost.com:

Three forces threaten Democrats in the 2010 elections: populist anger on the right, disaffection in the middle and potential disillusionment on the left.

Little more than a year out, the political landscape for the coming midterm election looks decidedly more favorable for Republicans than in either of the last two elections -- hardly a surprise given the shellacking they took in 2006 and 2008.

The liberals and their arrogance and brazen writing off of the right by painting them all with the racist brush is pushing those that haven't voted for the right in years to think about the ballot box. The more you demonize and lie about us, the more we decide that we will vote against your candidates instead of waiting for our party to actually put someone on the ticket that represents us.
Voting for McCain was not really an option for me, but I will be voting out those in both parties that have misrepresented me for years. I live in Illinois, so the hopes of getting a real conservative instead of a moderate RINO are laughable, but to rid ourselves of the likes of Durbin and Burris and the others in the corrupt Democrat machine in Illinois would be a great thing for this state. To see a conservative take the seat of the rookie senator that is now our president would be icing on the cake.

Keep up the good work, liberals...it is working like a charm. At this rate, you will succeed in handing the Congress back to the party that you think it is okay to hate. Remember, though, that your hate is directed at American citizens...

If they are basing this on the past, that the rep. will pick up a majority in seats in 2010 they should think again. So much has changed and as an idependent I will never vote republican, not in a local election or national - ever. Beleive me there are a lot of other independents that feel the same way I do. I can't believe that the GOP would spend all it's time trying to stop and block health care. Don't they realize that their constituents are also losing their jobs, health care and getting foreclosed on because of it. It is not a democratic or republican problem, it is a United States problem. But the GOP has shown it's true colors. They are not worried about the people of the US they are only worried about stopping Pres. Obama. They are so green with envy it is sickening.

If the Dems could just get organized at all levels they would have a chance.
I don't think they are capable of developing a party wide agenda.

The Corporatist DLC took over the party.

It was easy and inevitable with money determining who wins elections.

The Progressive Caucus is the good folks like Kucinich. About half the house, but just a handful of senators, since corporatist find it cheaper to buy senators from small population states.

G'zus.. who are these HP "reporters" who cut and paste articles from other sources and o'pine with 2 paragraphs on what they think was said? Is that all it takes to be a journalist at HP? Sign me up then, His interpretation of the WP article has all of these Repub losers running around WISHFULLY THINKING...
1st off HP "journalist", you can't GAIN an advantage you TAKE an advantage, you can GAIN momentum which could lead to taking an advantage. 2nd, the article stated 3 forces it thought could place the Democrats at risk and 1 wasn't even REAL, Populist anger on the right, disaffection in the middle, and the UNREAL possible disillusionment on the left, I'm sorry will not threaten the Democrats and help realize the gains across the board the Republicans expect. LOL. What a joke. Craziest shiggidy I've heard all year.
Reps have spent an entire year on TV and radio taping ads for the upcoming election. Do you really think the electorate is going to vote for these CLOWNS after the Democrats play these clips/soundbites over and over again? Placing hopes on Obama failing is STUPID. The author should have focused on what the real problem with the Republicans are: "The Party of No"! No Solutions, No participation, No Respect, Joe Wilson, Michelle Bachman, Bobby Jindel, Liz Cheney, Tea Parties, Fox News, hypocrisy, Lies, Limbaugh, on and on and on.
Sorry I'm not convinced. So quit dreaming and lets get back to repairing this country!

So let me get this straight,if the Dems aren't getting the job done, you'll vote in a Republican? You will "punish" the Democrat(bad) by voting for a Republican(worse).Makes no sense!Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face!
If the present Democrat won't get the job done, then they need to find and run a candidate who will!

If Democrats with MASSIVE veto proof majorities in BOTH houses of Congress and the White House can't fight the weakest RNC in 40 years with no leadership but Miss Mitch McConnell and blubbering Boehner, reduced to ONLY Appalachia and Utah.....then they are WIMPS who don't deserve their offices.
it isn't Democrat vs, Republican choice, it's THESE wimps vs BETTER Democrats.

Young voters facing the worst unemployment, Latin@s mad as hell that nothing is being done on Immigration and LGBTs angry about being thrown under the bus AGAIN...aren't going to do heavy lifting to keep do nothing Dems in office.
so go big Dems.....or GO HOME.

No they are not. They are making the most noise at the moment. John McCain was gaining advantage after their convention. It was just there moment to shine but the shine will come off very quickly once we start discussing the issues.
11:43 AM on 10/18/2009
right because most swing voters look at the issues very deeply...wait until virginia and nj gov elections in a few weeks, that will tell you how the nation is feeling
12:15 PM on 10/18/2009
No, they'll tell you how VA and NJ are feeling. Whether that translates into how the rest of the country feels is another question. As much as the media wants to turn these two isolated governor's races into a referendum on Obama, the truth is, people vote for governor mostly based on state and local issues. The only people who will vote republican in either race because of "Hate Obama, GRRR!" are the diehard republicans who were never going to vote democrat any way.

This sounds like malarkey to me. A rising economy, and some sort of health care reform bill will be enough to keep this from being much of a change.

The GOP is counting on disaffection as an advantage. Yet what the GOP doesn't seem to get is that no matter how disappointed or disillusioned people may be in the midst of the unprecedented crises that are impacting our country, crises that evolved in the last administration, that does not mean that people will vote for the Republican.

As noted in the article the day before this one was presented, the Republican Party has become a Party of the fringe element. Many moderate Republicans, rational Libertarians, right-leaning Independents and true conservatives not only do not want to be identified with today's Republican Party, but have fled from the Party, some publicly.

Consequently, the Republican Party has essentially become a party of birthers, teabaggers who merely used the tea party platform to undermine democracy (i.e. the election of our President), townhall hollerers who used the townhall meetings to undermine civil discourse, and the blatant r@cists who don't even try to disguise their intent.

The Republican Party has become smaller, more out of touch and therefore less relevant than ever before. They make a lot of noise and they're very visible, but they're looking at and listening to themselves, and they're also fooling themselves if they think they represent mainstream America.

Republicans have nothing left to defeat Dems with, but Dems can still lose. It's just that if Dems do lose, it'll be because we've defeated ourselves.

Your calling those who attend the town hall meetings, tea parties, etc. regular people?
That's scarey enough.

Worse is your comment of "Break your promises and this is what you will get."

We-The true normal people have had enough of the screaming, inciteful racial town halls. Don't get yourself to worked up about 2010. The Dems will keep control.

By then, healthcare reform will have been passed, more troops out of Iraq, a better strategy for Afghanistan, the economy will begin to rebound.

Wingers have and will continue to vote republican but the rest of americans will be the one's saying NO! in 2010.

I love how Newt and the GOP use phrases like 'the radicalism of the left,' as if what's been going on with the right has been an exemplary demonstration of civility and moderate views.
12:17 PM on 10/18/2009
Republicans always whine and complain about how radical and uncivil democrats are, and then turn around and pander to the far right radicals and act uncivil toward even their own moderates.

It always amazes me how the GOP acts shocked and surprised when their general rude and mean-spirited attitude gets reflected back at them.
