Antonio Villaraigosa

As the National League Championship Series heats up, friendly rivalries between cities are inevitable. The latest wager comes, however, not between rivals at a bar, but between mayors on Facebook.

In reference to the Dodgers-Phillies series, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa posted on Facebook an e-mail he'd sent to Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter. The e-mail read as follows:

Mayor Nutter--

How about a wager on the series between our ball clubs?

The terms:

I know we both see service as an honor. As such...

If the Dodgers win, I will volunteer for a day of service with Habitat for Humanity.

If the Phillies win, you volunteer for a day with Habitat for Humanity.

Oh, and if we win, since we'll be working hard for Habitat for Humanity, we'd love it if you sent us some cheesesteaks, be they Pat's, Geno's or your personal favorite.

And if you win, we'll send you some of LA's finest Pink's chili dogs to enjoy during your day of service.

Thanks, Antonio Villaraigosa

Villaraigosa has also been promoting the contest on his Twitter feed, though he seems almost as excited about the food as he does about the possibility of volunteering with Habitat For Humanity.

As someone who's lived in both Philadelphia and Los Angeles, I can say that both Pat's Steaks and Pink's Hot Dogs are a great treat, though the mayors might see them as more of a punishment within a few hours of consuming -- just sayin'.

I appreciate a little good natured fun with a bet that is tied to the LA-Philly series but I have a better idea. Why not have a Major League Baseball day of service for Habitat For Humanity. What a great message it would send saying that even though we love the game we play, we still know what is really important in life. I have been on a Habitat project where I worked with some pro baseball players and they showed they could swing a hammer as well as a bat.

How appropriate it is that the long awaited DODGER COME BACK TO DYNASTY will be by defeating the Phillis. I don't know if Mayor Nutter ever had a Pink's Dog, but I don't see him getting one from the City Of LA anytime soon.

Geno's steaks and working for a good cause...Mayor Villaraigosa is going to have a good day.

Habitat for Humanity is great, they will train anyone how to build a house from foundation to roof shingles.
