ST. PAUL, Minn. — Rock band Def Leppard has canceled the final leg of its North American tour.

The band said in a statement on its Web site that it canceled 23 shows in the U.S. and Canada "due to unforeseen personal matters." The last leg of the tour was to start Oct. 22 in Reno, Nevada, and wrap up Nov. 28 in Beaumont, Texas.

The band said it "agonized over this decision."

Fans who bought tickets through Ticketmaster, by phone or over the Internet will get automatic refunds. Otherwise, refunds are available at the point of purchase.

Before canceling, Def Leppard had one the top 20 shows on tour, according to information from the trade publication Pollstar. The band was taking in nearly $700,000 a show.

The top ticket price for their show here in Columbus OH was $100- a bit of an overreach I would think particularly in this economy and even with Cheap Trick on the bill. Maybe they just couldn't sell enough tickets- and perhaps this economic downturn will finally restore some sanity to concert ticket prices!

They were pretty good during the "High N Dry" era. Much, much heavier.

it's tough getting old. AC/DC had to delay the start of their USA tour so their lead singer could recover from an unnamed medical procedure ...

That's what they get for trying to go Country, I guess. I met them YEARS ago and they were nice but this was before they got big. The drummer still had both arms, they had the original band, etc.

It's tuff all over. AC/DC is coming here in a couple of weeks and they are advertising the show and ticket availability on teevee.

Thanks for the link. While I have to admit that I was not "enlighted", I do respect all music artists like these guys, who are making a genuine effort when performing live music like this. It's gotta be tougher than ever -- to be in a live band -- today.

Music is also very subjective. Perhaps, someone else can (and will) appreciate them more than me.

But thank goodness, they didn't sound like the Jonass Brothers! :-)

That sucked!

Why do hate people so much that you would post that link?

I know seventh graders that make better music than that.

IMHO they were sick of def leppard tribute bands selling out little clubs all over the country. problem is - they tried booking into much bigger venues that couldn't support huge ticket sales

i love em though - few songs rival "pour some sugar on me" for sheer sexuality

i was involved many yrs. ago on the 'jackson victory tour'. the guy running the tour told me it cost $1 million a week to keep it on the road. towards the end of the tour, they cancelled tons of dates for low ticket sales, and alot of subcontractors including the company i worked for got stiffed.

The figures cited in this story notwithstanding the usual reason for canceling a tour is lame ticket sales.
