Ollanta Humala wouldn't have put up with this nonsense. Unfortunately the American lackey washed up has been Garcia is ok with this.

Peru has been plundered like this for the last 500 years. I've lived in the Andes and seen how even other Peruvians treat the indigenous like dirt. During the times of the Shining path they were terrorized by both the army and the Shining Path themselves. These days the government invests nahda in education making it easier to control people who are simply fighting for their rights. This exploitation and oppression is one reason I've advised people NOT to visit Machu Picchu.

There doesn't seem to be a criminal prosecution. Perhaps Peru and the UK share President Obama's policy that when it comes to torture and murder by important people the government needs to look forward not backward and that these situations are occasions for reconciliation not retribution. Of course reconciliating with the dead may require that seances become quite popular in some quarters.

Too bad.

this sort of abuse underscores the importance of the Bolivarian progressive social movement sweeping through South America, and shows why the US-backed coup in Honduras must be defeated.

This is precisely what western companies do in the developing world. This is not exceptional, either. This is business as usual.

So many people talk about unions as being obselete. They should read this article. It seems that unless good, ethical, moral people stand up and take action, the strong, rich people will always take advantage of those who are weaker for financial gain. We must be forever vigilant against such people./corporations.

If the old unions are overly complacent and too corrupt, get new ones. But for crying out loud, getting rid of the ability to collectively bargain is suicidal.

zero comments? This attitude by the corps is centuries old: rape and pillage. Thanking all that is holy within us and for modern technology. "If I had a rocket launcher".
