Meditation essentially means total relaxation. When a person is completely relaxed they are less likely to get sick or a disease. Through meditation / relaxation toxins dissolve, the body becomes stronger and the mind thinks more clearly. Meditation has been an ancient practice for thousands of years, its seem only now the western world is finding learning, accepting, and incorporating it into their lifestyle. Chopra isn't the first or the only person to say that meditation is healthful.

Studied on TM have been ongoing since the 1970s and early on it was reported to be healthful.

This is a non-issue.

And I say:
"Eating healthily improves health".
"Exercise improves health"
"Not drinking in excess improves health"

Ok, where's my money?

Of coure meditation helps health, and good health helps one to meditate better. It's a mobius strip of the mind/body connection that most people of a spiritual nature have known for centuries, perhaps millenia

Ah, Deepak, sometimes you get things backward. Good health improves meditation. Meditate on that one awhile. First we get Health Care, then we can meditate quite happily because we won't have to worry about catastrophic illness bankrupting us.

Yin/Yang, Good/Evil, The DNA double helix, it's all interdependant on one another. Meditation affects health and good health improves one's ability to meditate, it's a mobius strip of life

He says a lot of other nutty, unsubstantiated stuff as well.
He sells books, too.

True. Folks who actually have to work for a living tend to be less healthy.

Depends on the work. If you sit all day in an office, work under high stress or hate your job I have to agree. But if you love your job and it gets you exercise and into the fresh air I would disagree. Would you say a park ranger who loves his/her job is in a unhealthy occupation?

If you read the whole article, you'll find a statement that "paradigm shifts happen one funeral at a time." This blew me away. One thing about a true spiritual teacher: they don't sugarcoat. They tell it like it is and I, a not-quite-recovered Sixties hippie, appreciate that mightily.

So my task in this body in this timeframe is to live a life that makes my funeral NOT one of those that is necessary for the paradigm shift. I may not make the full shift this time around, but not getting in the way is my new purpose in life.

Thank you, Dr. Chopra. And happy birthday.
