SANTIAGO, Chile -- The neighbors couldn't help but notice the huge head of Pope John Paul II rising out of the sculptor's workshop next door.

I like the headline "Chile outraged..." as if a giant mouth/crater had suddenly opened up in the Chilean land mass from which a voice proceeded: "I, Chile, am outraged." What a distortion! I'm not saying that everybody in Chile is happy with this, but there are as many opinions on it as there are Chileans.
Gross generalizations are effective especially on sites where Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular are barely tolerated, if not openly mocked, ridiculed and subject to what, in other circumstances, would be labelled "hate speech". But this is a bit much.

It is, but the Catholic church decided otherwise. Their display of saints and statues in cathedrals is something fundamentalist christians don't ascribe to.

Taliban and intolerant Christian fanaticism are the same under the cloth. What is the difference between the Taliban advocating political asassinations and Pat Robinson advocating on his media network the asassination of Venezuella's Chavez?
