"Going Rouge": Nation Editors Mock Palin With Book Of Their Own

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Palin Memoirs

An alternative, liberal judgment of Sarah Palin's legacy will appear in book stores on November 17, the same day Palin's own autobiography, "Going Rogue: An American Life," hits the shelves. "Going Rouge: An American Nightmare" is the brainchild of Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, editors at the progressive magazine The Nation. In addition to their nearly identical titles, the two books share similar covers, both showing Palin smiling into the distance.

"The cover is a parody of hers and it certainly takes some shots and mocks Sarah Palin, but it is a very serious book and the book itself is not a parody," Kim told POLITICO. "It is not at all intended as a joke or a parody." "Going Rouge" will feature essays from 23 contributors, including Jim Hightower and Naomi Klein.

The publisher's website reads:

The most honest, revealing account of the Palin story to appear this fall? You betcha!

Sarah Palin has many faces: hockey mom, fundamentalist Christian, sex symbol, Republican ideologue, fashion icon, "maverick" populist. But, above all, Palin has become one thing: an American obsession that just won't go away.

Does anyone know how well "Going Rouge" is selling? All I know is it is not in the NY Times top 30.

I live in Chicagoland and have been to several book stores, none of which seem to be carrying the "alternative" Going Rouge. Has anyone else had trouble finding it on shelves? One independent bookseller in the city told me there were some distribution issues. Has anyone else heard the same?

The cultural barometer of this country is revealed completely in the neighboring terms "fundamentalist christian" and "sex symbol" it pretty much sums up how screwed we are as a country going forward.

I bought the eBook and the on-demand version (which I have not yet seen, but expect is on its way). The content of Going Rouge is wonderful. Its a great collection of poignant essays about the vapid, shallow "commonsense" woman from Alaska. However, the book's production values left a lot of be desired looking much like a quickly slapped together Word Document saved as a PDF file with no thought to the collection of essays taking on a useful book form, lacking page numbers, chapter headers, an index, and multiple places throughout the text where an essay title appears at the bottom of a page in bold, but the essay beginning on the next page. Its sloppy production, and a huge missed opportunity for OR Books, and a disservice to the content, in my opinion. And that is a real shame in my opinion. It looks like a high school report without the clipart and pizazz. Loved the content, but the presentation, not so much.

I'm watching CSpan Washington Journal right now and they're talking abou whether the viewers are going to buy her book. I hope many of soccer moms are fooled and get home, open the book, and realize 1 of 2 things. That Sarah Palin is pretty critical of herself or thatthey bought the wrong book.

The Palin Book isn't out yet, and it's already offered at clearance prices at a 'news' blog

Buy the book for only $4.95 (that's right folks, only $4.95) and get a subscription to their 'news' for FREE!

Or you can buy a subscription, and get the book for FREE!

Plus shipping and handling I guess...I didn't click any further...

I'm scared of computer viruses from that site, plus there is the ick factor!!!

Why is Amazon not selling "Going Rouge"?
10:25 AM on 11/13/2009
Because the release date is November 17.

I'm not sure why, but it's only available here for pre-order: http://orbooks.com/
03:06 PM on 11/13/2009
Because it hasn't been "released" yet. That means you can't buy it because it isn't out yet.

Don't pay attention to her? That would be like ignoring someone who keeps hanging around your house trying to set it on fire.

Too bad Tina Fey wasn't releasing a book the same day. I'm sure that would be a great seller.

Have you ever wondered why Sarah ties you folks up in knots?

The reason there is such an obsession among the left about Palin is that she represents a holocost that didn't actually come to be (VP that is) but only threatened, an absolute horror to progressives until she and McCain lost the election. Palin maintains our attention because we are always amazed and shocked with the frightening thought that the Palin phenomenon really happened and that she was (and still is) praised by many leading republicans and conservatives. This is abominable and reminds most progressives that conservatives are dangerous; they are enemies of the recovery and advancement of our American society.

as opposed to Obama, he's not dangerous at all. the freshman senator as President. what were people thinking? Nancy Pelosi... nah, she's not harming all Americans.

meanwhile, Sarah ran for VP, which is basically a powerless position even Joe Biden couldn't really screw up, yet everyone got their panties in a twist as if she was taking over the world. big deal.

HA HA HA HA ! This is hilarious... I can imagine the scene: Palin fans in the line at the library with a book in their hands checking the title OVER and OVER to make sure it's the "right" one. "R-O-G-U-E...wait! or was it R-O-U-G-E ?!?" I would just love to be right behind in the line and comment "Choose wisely, my friend, for that is the one book you'll be reading for the next year and a half !"

Oh, PLEASE! It's not sexism.

nobody would ever really have a problem with her if she was male. even the title, "Going Rouge" reflects this.

Rep Alan Grayson is far worse than she could ever be.

Sarah Palin is being propped up by right wing extremists - political and religious. That is why she won't go away.
12:26 PM on 11/17/2009
why won't Bill Clinton just "go away". he publishes memoirs, has a library, keeps doing public appearances and interviews, and always seems to be sticking his bulbous nose everywhere it doesn't belong giving his 2c.

cause he's a respected statesman, former president, and philanthropist.

Not a washed up former governor from the meth capital of Alaska with so much fluff between her ears she can barely form a coherent thought or sentence.
