MICHAEL BRUNO

Current Status: Purveyor of the world’s definitive digital antique shop

Changing The Game By: Dragging the stuffy antiques business into the 21st century, creating the industry standard one-stop-shop site for antique furniture, art and jewelry. His 1stdibs.com allows shoppers to easily browse, find, and buy the newest of the old from hundreds of exclusive dealers, each one personally selected by Bruno. 1stdibs.com became such a hit with professional designers and do-it-yourself decorators that Architectural Digest selected it for a co-branded upscale shopping site: ShopAD.com. By facilitating the connection between buyer and seller, 1stdibs.com has been a lifesaver for dealers suffering through a recession-driven sales slump.

Early E-Commerce Convert: Bruno purchased a vintage "diplomat" gray convertible on eBay before starting 1stdibs.com in 2001.

The ultimate game-changer in "style" is going to be the consumer, who was not even listed. Or more likely the consumer+the economy. $300 jeans are now $200? Try $50 or $75 jeans. The only glimmer of light in this dark economic tunnel is that we might actually try paying a reasonable amount for "style." Hard to feel any sympathy for anyone who's broke but wears anything costing $200.

I have been designing fashion accessories for over 24 years and am a member of The Council of Fashion Designers of America and with my love of antiques I was lucky enough to get my store on 1stdibs a year ago and I have to say that Michael Bruno is THE Game Changer. I am in both worlds of fashion and interior design. I am a Gilt Groupe-y and buy beau coup from there and it is a FANTASTIC sample sale but the entire interior design industry has changed because of 1stdibs. I am a regular contributor to Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles and Introspective and I know seismic change when I see and EXPERIENCE it. Bravo to Bruno!

Are you kidding? Martha Stewart is the ultimate Game Changer and not even mentioned. She is responsible for bringing an unprecedented contemporary / clean "everyday" sense of style to our culture.

Game changers, eh? Do you think I might be excessively humble if I say I don't think I'm qualified to make the call? I'm just not that smart. Fortunately for this exercise, there will be many who will step forward and make up for my odious shortcomings.

You've lost me on this one, HuffPost. It is not comforting to note that the poll's first choice sells thousands of crocodile handbags online. That's progress? Please bring us humane "game changers," not peddlers of animal cruelty.

I'm a Tavi fan...

Tavi is a wicked rapper, a wonderful writer and has a keen appreciation for design and fashion. She's a poet, a photographer and designed a very cool t-shirt. It's fun watching her meet her heros this last couple of months. She also has a sophisticated appreciation for artists from all eras. I wish her well in the coming years.

Gilt Group is really an incredible web-site run by two amazingly dynamic and fashion forward women! My vote is for Alexandra and Alexis- thank you for making fashion not only affordable but also just a click away.

I can't wait to see how Tavi Gevinson develops as a style maven. Her blog is fantastic, and we'll be following.
