JEFF BEZOS

Current Status: Modern day Gutenberg

Changing The Game By: Having the chutzpah, know-how and persistence to reinvent the book by bringing to market a wireless reading device so good even die-hard book fans are succumbing to it. Created by Amazon's in-house hardware guru Gregg Zehr and his Lab 126, the Kindle 2 quickly replaced the clunker 1.0 version, followed by the new DX designed for newspapers and text books and a Kindle iPhone app. There are other e-readers, but the Kindle integrates Amazon's user-friendly customer interface and service, and offers over 365,000 titles downloaded wirelessly to your device in just a few seconds. Amazon says people with Kindles buy 3.1 times the number of books they did before owning the device. The future of publishing is here -- better get used to it.

Sample (Gushing) Testimonial: Bezos “has built a machine that marks a cultural revolution,” said Slate’s Jacob Weisberg. “Printed books, the most important artifacts of human civilization, are going to join newspapers and magazines on the road to obsolescence.”

The creator of YouTube isn't on here? That's just silly.

Netflix is in, Blockbuster brick and mortar stores are out.

Amazon is in, Circuit city and other brick and mortar stores are out.

see the trend. I am surpised the b&m stores are still surviving. most of the items we purchase (discretionary items, not grocery of course) have no business being in physical stores any more. Online shopping hopefully replaces all of this.

Not entirely. I prefer going to Big Box store, so when I buy a TV with a stuck or dead pixel, it's easier to get it exchanged...

minor inconvenience......Amazon has excellent return policy too.

think about how much efficient it is to not have a big box store...you save on inventory carrying costs, compensation, property taxes...etc etc...

This should NOT be the main. There are more pressing issues than this.

Just because you use Google AdSense doesn't mean you should be so afraid of an appearance of conflict of interest that you shut them out. Maybe calling Google a game-changer was considered a statement of the obvious and excluded for that reason?

I'd knock the Amazon Kindle guy off your list and put the Google duo in, because Google has changed the game of profiting from Internet content, while Kindle is not only going nowhere, it has probably setback online publishing of old printed works. I guess that's change, but not in the direction that I think this "Game Changer" series is meant to spotlight.

Just an aside here but if HuffPo is insistent on running these "polls," it would certainly be more helpful if you would list the candidates and their companies BEFORE we vote on them! Running through them all and them having to backtrack to decide a vote is decidedly unhelpful!

Steve Jobs upends the entire mobile communications/computing industry and not even a candidate?
Give me a break.

Zappos is focused on "service"? Are you kidding me? Zappos business lacks any heart and soul much like the misguided and A.D.D. youth running it. Zappos is as sterile as they come. And Denuo, innovative? Yeah, it takes a lot of innovation and groundbreaking work to spend a client's millions of dollars. Please.

If the last ten years is any example, the ultimate game changer in US business is the devil, or whatever other entity actually embodies the evil and selfishness that brought us to this pit of an economy.
