New York Daily News:

Nanette Lepore, Diane von Furstenberg and Michael Kors all rallied Wednesday to support the Garment Center, which is in trouble because of zoning laws. Retailers and suppliers in the area are losing their leases, leaving several labels and other companies hanging on by a thread while new condos and office buildings set up shop in their place.

These protesters aren't thinking this through. Olive Garden in New York serves the very important function of giving all these fat-arsed Midwestern tourists somewhere to go that is not a restaurant you would be caught dead in. Would you really prefer them all to end up at the Spanish Taverna (37th & 7th)? Let them eat that pseudo-Italian crap and we can all have a good laugh at their expense.

As to the Garment Center, maybe it's time has come. The rag trade is a ruthless industry. Sentimentality is pretty pointless.

This is RIDICULOUS. The garment industry has been outsourcing and destroying their own industry since 1979. But it didn't really matter if the little people were being put out of work. Now that the DESIGNERS are feeling the pinch, it's a big 'Oh Noesssss' to 'save' the industry.

Yes, you can call out Bloomberg for some after the fact re-zoning...but seriously, are you kidding me? The big names were missing because they've ALL outsourced their production. THEY are to blame.
