CAPE ROYDS, Antarctica : This spit of black volcanic rock that juts out along the coast of Antarctica is an inhospitable place. Temperatures drop below "50 Fahrenheit and high winds cause blinding snowstorms. The only neighbors are a colony of penguins that squawk incessantly and leave a pungent scent in their wake.

The Siemens ad that forces itself onto in this story is quite annoying. Boycott Siemens, whoever they are.

Freezing and thawing?

If the whiskey froze the bottles would be broken, wouldn't they?

But I doubt it gets cold enough, even in Antarctica to freeze whiskey.

What I do know is that if you put your whiskey bottle in a cooler packed with dry ice flown in on a helicopter on day 14 in the Grand Canyon, it can freeze the whiskey solid.

But that is quite a bit colder than even Antarctica.

FTA: international treaty dictates that the crates, and any intact bottles that are inside, remain in Antarctica unless they need to be taken off the continent for conservation reasons.

Surely they're going to have to taste some to see if it needs sonservation.

Allow me to start the bidding. Would $10,000 a fifth be a reasonable starting bid?
