Jon Gosselin: I Returned The Money

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Reality TV dad Jon Gosselin says he's returned $180,000 to a joint account he shares with his estranged wife Kate as the couple continues their bitter divorce battle.

Gosselin criticized his wife for not showing up Monday for a court hearing in the Philadelphia suburb of Norristown. He also says she still has not explained how she spent $33,000 in joint funds.

Kate Gosselin's lawyer says she supplied the information an arbitrator wanted and did not need to appear in court.

Two days of arbitration on pending divorce issues is scheduled for late November.

The TLC reality show "Jon and Kate Plus Eight" has chronicled the couple's lives while raising their eight children. The Gosselins filed for divorce in June.

is this the money he "didn't take". Actually Kate is correct; she needs to show the arbitor.. and believe me, the court will have forensic accountants POURING over all the figures submitted..

He is a pretty transparent guy.. hope she gets main custody.. She may be a neatnik and love organization and purpose; these are good qualities bringing up young children. The kids will have a better opportunity for normalcy and development. She is UNLIKELY to date or bring "friends" home for sleepovers. She isn't hedonistic nor seems self-centered; just lost and in pain.. and she will recover.

It's easy to see that the kids are very well adjusted. The reality show is set up so they don't even have to participate if they aren't interested.

I think Kate found a way to give this huge family a lot of very big advantages. Rather than being a bad thing, it's a good thing.

They now have college ensured. And she's found a new career.

He makes fun of her for having all the kids, as if the clown next to him had no part in that.

Neither one of them is parent of the year, but he has spent the last several months being harmful to his kids. Kate was caught on camera when they were together being dismissive of him, and I think for most of the show's run that public sentiment was with Jon. However, he's the one who said he despised her -- as if that wouldn't get back to the kids -- flaunted women, and generally chose to never take the high road.

No matter how your ex treated you, when you have children you don't get to have a crazy, public mid-life crisis. When you have 8 kids, you don't get to be the 9th one. Yet he runs all over the place like some ex- frat boy who doesn't know to leave the campus.

I don't know for sure what's going on with their money, but what kind of man drains the bank account when there are children? If he feels she's hiding money, he needs to go through the courts, but -- until that's sorted out -- he needs to do what it takes to make sure his kids don't go without. If his ex-wife is really as bad as he makes her out to be, it's all the more important that the kids see him as stable and that he does nothing to stick them in

As for Kate owing money to the account evidently said amount is becoming lower every day as Jon accused her of taking $55,000 and now he says its $33,000. Yet Jon was initially told to pay back what $175,000 or 180,000? Whatever the difference between those numbers and $230,000 is what he accused Kate of taking but if he’s repaid the entire $230,000, then there is nothing for Kate to pay back.

Jon should just admit he got caught instead of trying to spread the blame to Kate.

Hey never said he didn't take the money? He said he wasn't going to take it and spend it. There was some issues over what she was doing with the money.
I find this all, rather saddening. Both are in the wrong here, but with TLC putting all of their PR efforts into canonizing Kate and tearing down Jon, he's in for a rough few months. Even if the kids no longer appear on Plus 8; they will sign new contracts and be allowed to appear on Kate's new show.
Divorce is hard, but when you add the studio's money in the mix; things really get nasty.

Kate was afraid that Jon would do what he did and had previously taken the money out of that account but the Arbitrator ordered her to put the money back in and she did so always fearing that Jon would take the money, even though the Arbitrator had decided how the money should be appropriated. Yet, without Kate's permission (which is a condition for withdrawal of that account), Jon took all the money out and claimed repeatedly on national television that it was his "salary" for working on TLC.

Whatever monies Kate has earned through her book or personal appearances, as Jon similarly has, is not part of that joint account, yet Jon "wants to know" where Kate's money is from those endeavors, which he may not have any right too if Kate earned that money after their legal separation.

Anyway, if Jon had not returned the money he would have been in contempt of court, so perhaps Kate didn't show up to court Monday because she didn’t have to, as Jon didn't just return $180,000 but all $230,000. By accusing Kate of not returning any money, Jon is trying to save face.
