Figured I should point this out...
New Years does come before Christmas. Thus the whole New Year thing.
It's not literature, it's disposable music.
The same Pop stuff that's been being made since the 1920's.
And be fair, a lot of these lyrics were intentionally dumb/funny.
most of these quotes are pretty ridiculous but I thought I should point out that the Jeezy quote actually does make sense. when he say Tilapia he is talking about cocaine. A slang term for coke is fish scale, hence the fish reference. there are hidden meaning in a lot of today's rap and unless you are familiar with the terminology a lot of it sounds like gibberish.
Sounds like bubblegum music is making a comeback.
Some rap is catchy, some positive, and some poetic, but what's selling now (most of it) appeals to 12-25 years old. If you are over 30 and buying the same rap songs as a 12 year old, you need to read a book!
"I'm open, RZA hit me off lovely and I love him
With root beer thoughts, here's a tennis court for your birthday"
Ghostface FTW!
in "It's Yourz" by the Wu-Tang Clan

LOL, you people are funny. If you dont like rap dont listen, you mad cause young people like lil wayne or Jay-z and not Barry Manilow? R U serious? Grow up and stop whining. I bet if any of you tried to rap people would laugh at you so hard. A large part of rap is word play and saying things that have double meanings. "Like Dear mr toilet Im the sh*#" Which means I am large or the man right now. The problem for alot of you is cant understand what they are saying so you feel out of the loop. Its ok though just have an old school party so you and senior citizens friends can reminiscence about the old days lol....OLD people are funny LMAO
This is the dumbest post I've ever read. 1. This is listed on a comedy blog, so chill out. 2. Assuming that this post is nothing but old, white people being cranky over something they don't understand is ridiculous. I have loved hip-hop since I was a kid and can admit when lyrics are weak. If you can't separate good hip-hop from bad hip-hop, you are slapping the greatest in the face and giving the worst a free pass.
Maybe some of the people here just don't understand what rap is. If you have never been a young man or girl in the streets just expressing yourself then you will not understand the sometimes ridiculous lyrics out there. They can be stupid but thats how many artist (yes artist) began. If you don't understand the heart of rap is the street or urban experience then you will never appreciate what hip-hop, rap, or R&B is to those of us who enjoy it. BUT like any good product, the corporations have turned it into a quantity over quality bling bling fake wannabee gansta sales business. Now you have to open your ears a little more to hear the real street music vs fakestas. Today's best....T.I. , Ludacris, Jay-Z, NAS, Rick Ross, Emenim (Not the last album though), Tha Game. Theres more good ones.
50 Cent - Waiting Patiently
"You shouldn't throw stones
If you live in a glass house
And if you got a glass jaw
You should watch your mouth
...Cause I'll break your face"
That's tight.
Tupac lyrics that struck a cord with me (snippets)
I stop and stare at the younger my heart goes to 'em
They test, it was stress that they under
And nowadays things changed
Everyone's ashamed of the youth, cuz the truth look strange
And for me it's reversed, we left them a world that's cursed and it hurts
Cuz any day they'll push the button
And all good men like Malcolm X and Bobby Hutton died for nottin
don't it make you get teary , the world looks dreary
When you wipe your eyes see it clearly
There's no need for you to fear me
If you take your time to hear me, maybe you can learn to cheer me
It ain't about black or white, cuz we're human
I hope we see the light before it's ruined
------
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
-----
And still I see no changes can't a brother get a little peace
It's war on the streets & the war in the Middle East
Instead of war on poverty they got a war on drugs
so the police can bother me
