Chamber Of Commerce To Begin Ads Against Health Care Reform

WASHINGTON — Looking to build pressure on moderate Democrats, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce says it will begin airing new TV ads in seven states and on national cable television attacking the emerging legislation, including a government-run insurance option.

The chamber, the country's largest business organization, says such a public plan would force tax increases, raise peoples' health care costs and threaten employer-provided coverage that most Americans already have. The ad is slated to start Wednesday.

Chamber spokeswoman Blair Latoff said the ads would run in states including Maine, Louisiana and Arkansas – home to some pivotal moderate senators of both parties.

So, let's say you all get your way. There is a huge reform, that costs trillions of dollars.

Who do you think pays for that?

What happens when it is you, or your mom or dying bff, or your boss, that is one of the people that still is not covered by this huge expensive mess?

Would you still be complaining? You got what you wanted, didn't you?

Hats off to the administration for keeping the adverse interests from hitting the airwaves for as long as they did.

who cares about the poor? isn't that what america is all about? kick the poor the the curb and throw money at the rich? chamber of commerce is just doing what's american: destroying a legislation that'll help regular people. Just ask the teapartiers, they call themselves real americans. They'll tell you that it's ok for the rich to poop on their faces because it's the american thing to do.

I think a lot of the poorer folks who are republican are because they think if they vote republican it makes them feel richer. Kind of like rich people wannabees. Maybe I am wrong but ....

It is funny but NOW they are concerned about affordable health care. Where was their concern before. Where was their concern that the majority of foreclosures are related to healhcare costs.

What about reports that some small business owners can't afford insurance for their OWN family, forget about their employees? Is the Chamber speaking for its WHOLE membership or choosing certain businesses to stick up for and actually working AGAINST the interests of other businesses they are supposed to represent?

What does that have to do with the COC blocking health care reform ?!? Something the majority of Americans want ! Isn't your state trying to secede anyway ?
03:57 PM on 10/28/2009
Some people want to secede, I think it is pretty pointless. But, it is another topic. I was defending my earlier statements. That's what they had to do with this thread.

I personally think we should just kick certain states out of the Union. Texas is one of them.
02:47 PM on 10/28/2009
I am from Texas, and I can't read. I love Bush, because apparently hating Obama means I have to.
I don't know what socialism is. I just spout off crap I heard on Glenn Beck...

Seriously? All that is a bunch of crap and you people know it. Wake up. We became socialistic before Bush or even Truman.

A slow progressive movement towards the end of capitalism, setting up the proletariat to take over is where we have been heading for a long time. This is bigger than Bush/Obama. Read the Communist Manifesto. I did.

Here is a small definition straight from good ole wikipedia. Have a look, and tell me I am still retarded.

"Socialism refers to various theories of economic organization advocating public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources, and a society characterized by equal access to resources for all individuals with a method of compensation based on the amount of labor expended.

Most socialists share the view that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and derives its wealth through exploitation, creates an unequal society, does not provide equal opportunities for everyone to maximize their potentialities and does not utilize technology and resources to their maximum potential nor in the interests of the public."

Sounds like redistribution of wealth to me. Isn't that what your precious Obama advocates?

"and a society characterized by equal access to resources for all individuals with a method of compensation based on the amount of labor expended."

I would have to say that the amount of money that bankers and wall street people get proves we are no where near socialist. I would contact the socialist party and talk to them. They will help to educate you on a true socialist country. They were very angry that their beliefs has been miscontrused by the Repulicans.

Classic. Big business slashes their own throats, via our health. You know, the health of the consumers-- the entity that enables them to exist in the first place? Proves a long held contention that being successful in business does not necessarily require humanity or good sense.

what is it good for (CoC)...absolutely nothin'...say it again.

The more I hear of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce the more I wince.

The U.S. C. of C. claims to represent "your" ideas and interests in Washington for nearly a century!

The President and CEO-Thomas J. Donohue-claims the COC invests $200 million a year in lobbying, and claims the COC is a political powerhouse spanning the globe. He also claims the COC is a major player in election politics by aiding in the election of pro-business candidates.* Their own business interests, no doubt.

The Chairman of the Board-Robert S. Milligan-is also the Chairman of M. I. Industries, which is an animal and meat processing company. Besides pet products, M.I. also delves into biological and pharmaceutical products across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, China, and Brazil.*

I can only wonder why the U. S. Chamber of Commerce would be so against a public health plan, after all, are they not representing "your" ideas and interests? They have had nearly a century to hone their deceptionary techniques and keep their ideas and interests alive.
