Lieberman: I'd Filibuster Final Bill Over Public Option

Lieberman

Talking Points Memo:

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) told reporters today that he would in fact filibuster any health care bill he doesn't agree with--and right now, he doesn't agree with the proposal making its way through the Senate.

"I told Senator Reid that I'm strongly inclined--i haven't totally decided, but I'm strongly inclined--to vote to proceed to the health care debate, even though I don't support the bill that he's bringing together because it's important that we start the debate on health care reform because I want to vote for health care reform this year. But I also told him that if the bill remains what it is now, I will not be able to support a cloture motion before final passage. Therefore I will try to stop the passage of the bill."

Why does this guy call himself a democrat they should have never let him back in caucus. The other democratic opposition seems to be all about re election and not what the bill represents

Senator Lieberman, why you think that you are a democrat? in truth you are a staunch republican and you belong to GOP. why don't you join them? just think for a moment how good you will feel there: Sarah Palin will kiss you to show her gratitude, and Rush Limbaugh will hug you warmly for your help in killing the public option. ask all the poor and the uninsured whether they love you for that. you don't need to ask the insurance companies. they will donate generously to your election fund because you represent them. by the way,how it feels to have an excellent health insurance policy?

The Connecticut Insurance Cartel r.a.pes you first, then tries to k!ll you by denying your claim. Anybody that supports them or Lieberman represent a d.e.ath cult mentality.

If Obama is successful in cutting the $500 to $800 billion Medicare waste (fraud), and is able to trim military fraud, and allows the Bush tax cuts for the welfare wealthy to expire, there will be 3 times what is necessary to offset the cost of a robust public option.

Therefore, the right wing talking points concerning costs are just a cover for a justification to allow these robber baron marauders to continue to play life and d.e.ath.

Thanks Joe. We need more independents in Congress and less party men.

"We're trying to do too much at once. To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now."

I couldn't have said it any better myself.

A lot of constitution belchers like to say that the founding fathers knew what were they doing, and that is a very valid assumption, but this applies to FDR and others who had the Great Depression to deal and the Glass Steagall act being a crucial piece of legislation to prevent a future crisis in the banks.
Too bad later generations decided to tinker with that. Look at the result. We are supposed to learn from past mistakes, not repeat them.

A few problems Congress might want to address in light of the current downturn:

1. Re-enact Glass Steagall

2. Enact legislation making corporations entities rather than citizens (see the 1886 Supreme Court decision giving corps citizenship status at the behest of railroad barons)

3. Repeal the 1945 McCarran-Ferguson Act, which allows the insurance industry to monopolize healthcare

Here's a thought . . . represent your human constituents, more than 70% of whom want a public option in Conn.

Kind of like your teeth . . . ignore them . . .they'll go away.
07:41 AM on 10/28/2009
Ask Americans one question:

"Do you support the Public Option being championed by Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, and Barack Obama?"

My guess is that the poll would be close to 80% against and 20% for it.

Put a name on the issue and you will see what America really thinks.

The Co-Op system would be no different from any new Private Insurance Company - except it would have a gift of 7 billion dollars and 4 years time to get off to a robust start.

It is predicted that there could be up to 12 million paying members by its start in 2013.

To say that the Public Option would be more competitive than CoOps is to admit that the government is not telling the truth in saying that it would be run solely on premium by its members.

The obvious answer is that the Democrats are trying to trick Americans on the Public Option, because on paper, the Co-Op does just the same as the Pub. Option - all one needs to do is allow the Co-Op to work on a National scale until it reached sufficient membership.

Dems. don't want to refine this approach, because they really want Socialized Medicine down the road. Nor do they want the most practical approach of Out-of-State Private Competition with rates adjusted for local State taxes etc. Nor do they want to save $50+ billion by having some minor malpractice reform and take that money away from the Democratic Trial Liars.

Go ahead and call me names. I am a lifelong voting Democrat who has gotten wiser with age.
I started out campaigning for George McGovern against Nixon in 1972, when I was at your age and idealism.

SINGLE PAYER IS THE BEST HEALTH CARE PLAN PERIOD.

ANYTHING ELSE IS FUNDAMENTALLY ANTI-AMERICAN AND AGAINST NATIONAL SECURITY.

IT SEEMS YOU WILL SUPPORT SOCIALIZED BANKING BAILOUTS, BUT NOT HELPING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE 70% OF WHICH SUPPORT A ROBUST PUPLIC OPTION.

WHICH IS IT YOU ARE EITHER "FREE MARKET OR NOT?"

single payer is not the best health care system. sorry... it just isn't.
