AUSTIN, Texas — Former Vice President Dick Cheney will throw his support behind U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's campaign for Texas governor.

Hutchison's campaign confirmed Wednesday that Cheney will endorse the Texas Republican's March primary challenge of Gov. Rick Perry at a fundraiser next month.

Campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Baker says details are still being worked out, but Cheney is scheduled to appear at a Nov. 17 fundraiser and campaign event in Houston.

The former vice president is popular with conservative activists and could help Hutchison bolster support among them.

Neither one are fit for public office .I was thinking about Baily until I read some of her face book peoples comments.she is as bad if not worse than perry there has to be a better choice .This women said she believed in term limits and pledged to serve only two terms. She lied she is now in her third term. That alone tells a lot about her character. She will say what people want to hear.IMO Perry is no betterif not worse they both want to take our copuntry back 50 years or more.

Hey, we gotta think this through here. It doesn't matter if we think Cheney was a buffoon, conservatives like him. Hutchinson is prepping to run for POTUS with her move to run for governor of Texas. She has a lot of seniority in the Senate even though her party is not currently in control. She is planning something bigger than a gubernatorial race.

Elizabeth Dole couldn't get the backing within her party, but Hillary Clinton proved a woman can be a front runner in the Democratic Party. I bet Hutchinson, no matter what she says now, thinks she can be relevant however many years down the road, if she is governor first.

Seniority has little to do with leadership..

Bob Dole, of Kansas, has always lived in the Watergate.

North Carolina sent 'Liddy' back to DC and the Watergate.

Huh? Seniority has everything to do with leadership if your party is in control of the Senate. To run for POTUS you need money and no one with any in the GOP would support Elizabeth Dole in a presidential run. I wasnt talking about whether North Carolinians voted her back into the Senate. I dont understand your point.

Anytime a US Senator says they want to go 'Home' to become the Governor, stop and think.

Frank Murkowski, resigned as Senator from Alaska, he became Governor and said his daughter should replace him in the Senate.

Daughter, Lisa, has genuine ties to the 'Bridge to Nowhere' in Alaska.

Texas, get smart. Palin and Cheney?

Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is running for Governor of Texas, recently said that she would like for public education to return to the same system she enjoyed growing-up in Texas. Really? Born in 1943, Hutchison attended segregated schools from kindergarten through college. Under Court order, Texas schools were finally forced to desegregate in 1971, years after Brown v. Board. Minus Federal intervention, race-based discrimination would still be legal. The republican mantra of restoring America’s “traditional values,” which is code for resurrecting Jim Crow era laws, continues to be the war cry for conservatives and phony Christians. Change invariably generates anxiety, which was the case in 1964 when President Johnson pushed the Civil Rights Act through Congress. Comfortable with the status quo, white southerners ginned up fear by proclaiming from the pulpit that granting blacks equal protection under the Constitution would transform America into a banana republic; thus, based on orders from degenerate Christian segregationists, across the South, black men, women and children were systematically brutalized. Fast forward to 2009, spurred on by the repulsion of a black president, and desperate to stop hemorrhaging political power, republicans have evolved into a regional, rudderless mob of bigots hell-bent on maintaining control through fear and intolerance. Republicans are petrified that the proverbial melting-pot is getting darker, which is why they have aimed their hatred at delegitimizing and dehumanizing President Obama.

With Cheney's endorsement, Hutchison better hope that he doesn't want to take her on a hunting trip.

Is there any news about the Dem nominees in the Texas governor race?

Does Cheney back her because she's more mainstream than Perry or because she seems more, docile than Perry?

If I was Hutchinson I would worry.
Cheney is a cowardly draft dodger who has mishandled two wars to the tune of trillions of dollars. His henchman McChrystal made America notorious in Abu Graib thru leading his special ops men to the tune of Cheney's macabre tune. Imagine what he'll suggest for her campaign. I'm sure he already has her under surveillence.

Not only that he may just support her , only to appoint himself governor , at the last minute. After all, he believes the whole world should reflect the dungeon of his mind.

I don't care who Cheney endorses, what he thinks or what he says. He is irrelevant.

Andrew Sullivan said it best in The Daily Dish: "Cheney, one of the most incompetent vice-presidents in the country's history, with a record of two grotesquely botched wars, war crimes and a crippling debt......."

Perfectly put.

Why does Dick believe if he endorses someone its a good thing? It certainly was not a good thing for McCain.

Cheney, scheduled for a fundraiser on Nov. 17, will be handing out party favors for all - cupcakes and guns. This guy is backing you Kay. Be very afraid.
