A while back my son went out for Halloween as a "mad monk" in a voluminous monk-style bathrobe I made for him. (Yes he was dressed underneath.) Two of his female companions were rather less dressed as a belly dancer and punk vampire. When the night turned chilly, he got to share his robe with the two girls. There was room for all three of them.

He wore the same robe to be Arthur Dent (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) the following year....

That leopard looks like he's got his tail on backwards.

I think risqué would have been a more appropriate word than sexy. I really wasn't titillated by any of these. Most of them were quite dull, actually. I can see how some people might feel they push the boundaries of decency, but that doesn't make them "sexy." Choosing the right word is so important.

Either the photographer was very tall, or some of the women had very short legs..

I always notice that in red-carpet pics. The foreshortened legs look terrible.
It's like: who ARE these photographers? Are they all unable to bend their knees?

For people with unlimited cash who are ostensibly part of an artist community they are SO disappointing and unimaginative. They look like they shopped for costumes at WalMart!

What are the REAL artists doing? I bet Heidi Klum's party was a lot of fun and had much better costumes than those shown.

Over 18? There probably is no "too far".

I am no prude by any sense of the word, but what they are marketing to the 6-12 year old is downright disgusting. You almost have to cover their eyes when shopping at Party City.

Hidenout--I heard a new phrase (or at least new to me..) the other day about kids' costumes....."Prosti-Tots"! After seeing the world of toddler/kiddie pageants (and I'm not bashing pageants, my sister has my 3 year old neice in them) painted up to look like teenagers who spend too much time in the makeup aisle, this sleazy costume craze is another nudge toward growing up WAY too fast! I may be showing my age, but I don't recall costumes being so slutty when I was a kid. If this is a "sign of the times", imagine what kids will be wearing--or NOT wearing, in ten years......Now that is SCARY!!!!

Pretty much.
It's like: "Ladies! It's the one day of the year when you can be whatever you want to be! So get busy being a straightmale fantasy. JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER DAY, ONLY MORESO. (Guys? Feel free to dress however you like. Just like every other day.)"

This has been slowly taking over for several years now. That, and the "drink 'til you puke, it's required" atmosphere. Where is this coming from? When did scary masks, harmless pranks and candy get replaced by near-nudity, se xu al assault and binge drinking? In short: when did Halloween go from being a children's holiday to being Spring Break? (Last year, a bar in the next town over held a "wet-costume" contest. I kid you not.) It's only a matter of time until there's a "Girls Gone Wild: Halloween" video.

Man. I used to love Halloween.
