Poltroon: What Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Want You To Be (VIDEO)

Poltroon was the Word of the Day on the O'Reilly Factor with Bill O'Reilly today. The definition was not given, but O'Reilly said it's something viewers should not be.

A quick trip to Dictionary.com tells us that the word means, "a wretched coward." Synonym: craven.

But today didn't just include an unusual word. The delivery of that word wasn't exactly smooth.

O'Reilly clearly has his assistants just randomly flipping through the dictionary so he can pretend he has a large vocabulary of obscure words. Poltroon comes from the word "poltro" meaning "couch," or someone who lazily sits on the couch and never has the guts to get up and do anything. That sounds a little like some armchair pundits who think they know everything about politics, but never ran for office, talk tough, but were never in the military, and always call everyone else a coward, but never leave the safety of their own armchairs. Hmmm...maybe they should have a picture of O'Reilly in the dictionary next to the word poltroon.

I'm far from defending O'reilly but the word derives from the french poltron which means coward.

Funny, I've been using that word on Bill-O for years.

That word encompasses Bill and so many of his fellow talkers on Fake Noise Network, I'll bet he looks in the mirror every morning and says that word to himself over and over. If you look in the dictionary for that word it has a picture of O"Biley next to it.
