Unless those of you who are so critical of this situation are ready to dig into your own pockets and:
a) provide eldercare for the husband (medicare/social security) for the ancient man AND
b) provide a retirement fund for the brides parents

I'm all for May-December relationships. I know I have dated a few older men in my life. But a 95 year age difference is stretching things a bit even for my tastes.
According to the bible this is perfectly acceptable with lots of documentation throughout history that it's happened often, although admittedly by bible standards she's 5 yrs past her prime.

1. The bible was written by God...and I have read nothing by him since saying one can't marry a young wife.
2. I guess you forgot that people lived 100's of years back then.

Oh so what? She is 17 not 7 and he is not exactly going to make this a marriage that lasts for fifty years. Possibly fifty days but not years.
It is also nice to see a story come out of Somalia that is not about some Pirate or local Warlord kidnapping or shooting someone. Nor is it one of those pieces on Burqa Mania or the current fetish for flogging.
Obviously the foreign journalists are still interested in portraying the country as the place where only bizarre things happen but its a step in the right direction.
you're right. This is such a positive story about women having the freedom to do what they want, but more so about how having multiple wives is such a great thing.

But, all kidding aside, this is sick and wrong. He should know better than to take a young girl and turn her into a widow within a year or two. How selfish of him to want more children after already having A HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN of them. 114 kids. And he wants more. What will happen to her once he passes away? Will she, in her society and culture, be an eligible bachelorette again? Men like thi smake me so mad.
