ONE SIGNATURE and "you're hired!" yayh...I'm moving to KOREA and telling them I'm a BIO-ENGINEER from MIT. She is probably not the first scammer at Dongguk University with fraudulent US Univ. credentials...doubt she will be the last? Lets not blame YALE for not thoroughly investigating Dongguk University professors: sounds a little vindictive... maybe more behind this story.

Clearly both parties are at fault. I don't see, however, how a monetary recovery can bridge the cultural differences that were at the root of the misunderstanding that led to this failure to immediately detect the fraud of the counterfeit.

I know little about Dongguk University, in South Korea, but I do know about Yale University, and, administratively it is about as corrupt (and pious) as the Republican party. The university has a long history of disenfranchising the working class people in New Haven who surround the university as though it were a medieval castle in God's light.

Needless to say, Yale values its credentials beyond their actual merit. No matter their haughty response to Dongguk University's accusations, I can well imagine the condescension with which the administrator signed the misrepresentation after a cursory read, if that.

I'd like how it would look it if the roles were reversed. Would Yale go after them seeking monetary damages? In either case it is the American lawyers who'd benefit. ;-)

The Korean University talks about honor as it tries to snake Yale for millions.

Well, it looks like someone picked out one of thousands of silly civil suits and decided to make a headline out of it.

I was reflecting recently about some of the Koreans I have known over the years. In my opinion, most of the adults have a more highly developed sense of right and wrong than most of the adults in this country. It is hard to explain, but I have seen evidence in my personal relationships with Koreans I have met that they take morality very seriously.

I cannot say that I know for sure what the big picture here is all about, but it sounds to me like there is disappointment that a reasonable request for authentication was not dealt with responsibly, and, failing that, the apology should have been more sincere.

The best thing about Koreans is how the men treat the women. They do so terribly. This is not so good for the women over there, but when they come to the States, the first thing they do is hook up with an American. Being one, I am very appreciative of the Korean male's sense of right and wrong.

Obviously, you've never been to a Korean restaurant or a store. LOL.
I dated a Korean woman, and even she was shocked at the rudeness of service back in Korea.

Any serious hiring process would include an peer examination of her work, including her PhD. If she is a fraud, this would have appeared right away.

If she did excellent work without a PhD, she should have been hired. If she did lousy work with a PhD, she should NOT have been hired.

The issue is this lady's scholarship, not where she got her training. The Korean University dropped the ball on this one.

Shin Jeong-ah was hired ON HER WORD, BEFORE her credentials were established. This is a half-a$$ backward way to hire faculty. Korean university was clearly negligent in their hiring practices.
Now they''re trying to pass the buck ( pun intended) to Yale.
Although an inferior institution (lol) Yale will be found not guilty.

Because there's no description of the story here's what happened:

Woman claimed to have Yale PhD and was hired by prestigious Korean University. University mistakenly confirmed she held degree. She didn't. Korean University sues for $59M claiming Yale defamed them.

My money's on the Yale Layers.

Yeah Gover, pretty clear you didn't read the article. The Korean University asked Yale to verify her degree, and Yale did so -- in writing. Yale is clearly at fault.

Yale is at fault, but is it worth 50 mil? I wonder if Dongguk is prepared to take a severely reduced bargain?

How is that even worth 59 million dollars though? I don't see how anyone can justify that sum of money, especially if this woman was actually a benefit to the university in the time she was there.
