CBS 11 /TXA21:

The city of Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world and it has a new defender: Texas Governor Rick Perry.

In August, Perry was given the "Defender of Jerusalem" award. So Perry and his wife flew first class to Israel at more than $5,000 per ticket. The governor's security detail of four Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers was also along for the trip.

Raises questions all right, and I have one as well.

Am I right in assuming it cost the tax payer zero dollars for Obama to accept the Nobel Peace Prize ?

Perry's little made-up award isn't even in the same league as the Nobel Peace Prize, big business isn't associated with the Nobel Peace Prize and Perry isn't the President of the U.S.

The Nobel Peace prize is a real award--prestigious one at that that may carry some muscle with it. The award Perry received was created and given by the oil/gas industry. Obama didn't hide his expenses for the trip' What does Perry have to hide? Even the Texas legislature had to pass a quick bill to cover his tracks.

Two 747's, a 757, and some C-17's flew Obama et al to Copenhagen for the Olympics thing. It was payoff to his Chicago cronies and mega-donors, like Sub-prime Penny Prtizker.

The president did not go in secrecy and did not buy the award. Perry is capable of anything underhanded and self-serving. There is no similarity here.

When your governor feels it is necessary to play cat and mouse with how he spent your money it's definitely time to get rid of the guy. These again Christians" believe they are the ones who should inherit the earth amd nobody else. Even if they aren't there quite yet they like to act as though they are so they'll be ready. Perrry ought to go to a place where he'll never be heard of again.......oblivion is waiothing for him...no time like the present I say.

Rick Perry is a born again christian, they believe in the Rapture, they believe that the Middle East, ie; Israel will be ground zero for the event that will precipitate Armageddon, then they will all rise to heaven, while we the non-believers writhe in blood and fire filled rivers, they eagerly await this event, so conflict in the Middle East is music to their ears, in fact, they encourage it.

I think Governor Perry would benefit from some counseling from Rabbi Shmuley Botech, like Jon Gossleing is getting.

Maybe Rick's interviewing for a new gig. He'll need one because the Bushes and their oil friends are going to put Kay Bailey Ironbritches into the Governors chair so she can run with Jeb in 2012.

Is Jersusalem located on the Appalachian Trail? Are we certain that he really went over there to receive some award? Perhaps that wasn't his wife that accompanied him. Does the woman identified as his wife speak with an Argentinian accent? This entire story is highly suspect to me.

Hey Texas, what's up ?

The Texas Advance Directives Act (1999), known as Texas Futile Care Law, The bill was signed into law while George W. Bush was Governor of Texas. Section 166.046, Subsection (e),[1] which allows a health care facility to discontinue life-sustaining treatment against the wishes of the patient or guardian ten days after giving written notice if the continuation of life-sustaining treatment is considered medically inappropriate by the treating medical team.

The Texas State Board of Education review committee is preparing to vote on a draft of proposed standards for history textbooks. Noting the draft has “nothing about liberals,”
The first draft for proposed standards in US History Studies Since Reconstruction says students should be expected “to identify significant conservative advocacy organizations , individuals, such as Newt Gingrich, Phyllis Schlafly and Moral Majority.” Others have proposed adding talk show host Rush Limbaugh and National Rifle Association.
The 15-member committee, stacked with 10 Republicans, is expected to vote along party lines. Earlier this year, a panel of right-wing “experts” produced a report urging the committee to remove biographies of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln,Stephen F. Austin, César Chávez, and add history about the “motivational role the Bible the Christian faith played in the settling of the original colonies.”

Starting this year, Public high schools in Texas will be required to teach students about the Bible.

We have a chance of changing the very nature of Texas government in 2010 but it will require a near perfect storm of events. We need:

A really divisive fight between the 2 repub candidates for governor (check)
A strong democratic nominee for governor
Strong democratic congressional candidates
A high voter turnout in the metropolitan areas and south Texas
Support from the DNC
Organizing on college campuses

We have an opportunity to affect all of the following races

Governor
All 150 representatives (think redistricting)
16 State Senators
8 members of the board of education (we have to do this if nothing else)
3 members of the state supreme court

For the democrats and independents who live here, let's start now to make 2010 a political sea change and begin to undo all the harm Bush, Perry and all the rest of republicans have done to the state. Do it for Ann.

Just another reason I won't visit - much less consider living - in Texas... When you mess with education, you are REALLY effing up your future.

Maybe he is negotiating with Israel to provide them oil and gas after Texas secedes from the Union. They give him start up money to secede and he sells them the oil. Who knows?
