What's Your Reaction?

In Gastonia, North Carolina, a deer crashed through a ceiling into an indoor swimming pool. The deer circled the pool, and then jumped in. Once in the pool, it swam around, and at one point, appeared to actually be swimming laps, within the lap lanes. The whole scene was caught on security camera. Watch it below.

Extreme urban freestyling by deer, with a swimming break in a nice heated indoor pool.

All puns aside, I knew before watching this that the subtext would be tinged with sadness. This Deer fell through a roof that it thought was a solid surface, it then panicked and jumped into the pool, and in this panicked state swam back and forth trying to figure out how to get out. The subtext-humanity's impingement upon the natural world, our basic disregard for the 'property' rights of the species with whom we share the earth. Call me a downer, but I just don't see the humor in this. Props to Huffpost though, for putting it in the "Green" section, as it does speak to a fundamental 'environmental' issue.

I agree. What we're doing to the creatures of this earth is very sad indeed. Loss of habitat, environmental degradation, roadkill, factory farming, millions of unwanted pets killed each year. The animals can sense the encroachment.

We humans have some bad karma heading our way...

Yeah, as soon as I read that it crashed through a ceiling - I knew it was probably confused and scared about where it was and what to do. I'm glad the deer got out OK though.

I agree. I don't find it humorous at all. The poor deer was probably scare to death. How did it not hurt itself falling through the roof?

It's extremely difficult for an animal to get out of a pool. They can't pull themselves up out over the edge. And, they don't realize there may be some sort of stairs somewhere - they just panic.

My dog can't get out by himself so he's not allowed near the pool without his human friends nearby. Unfortunately we know of a cat who did not make it out. ....just a word of caution for any 'new' pool-people.

Yes, my previous dog (avatar) could not get out of our pool and would have drowned once if we hadn't been closely watching. Our new dog, a 24 lb Rat Terrier is quite capable of getting out by himself...more easily than myself, I must say.

I am so glad the deer made it out of there. This is some week for deer. My car is in the shop right now because a deer decided to collide with my car. On a two lane road here at the beach on OR, it leapt right out of a thicket of pine trees and hit my front/side left of my car. I didn't even know what hit me. It died instantly, I pulled over and by the time I figured out what happened, a county worker saw the deer and dragged it to the back of the truck and threw it in the truck. Anyway, I felt awful, but every one tells me that is was good it died fast instead of me just injuring it. I never hit an animal before, it was traumatic. Not to mention $4000 damage to my car. The body shop said this was the 9 deer hit in their shop in Oct.

You're very lucky. I know it seems crass to say so, given your shock and car damage, but a friend of mine was killed by a dear leaping in front of his car.

It came right through the windshield and my friend was killed instantly.

What? Deer jumps off roof into pool? There is only one reasonable explanation: It's one of Santa's raindeer.

Somehow a Speedo for the deer would have made for a faster time.

Or at least shave off some of that hair. Hasn't the deer ever heard of streamlining?
