What's Your Reaction?

On Friday night on The Ed Show, Ed Schultz gave an impassioned speech calling out the president for making concessions on health care and abandoning the robust public option.

"What does President Barack Obama want when it comes to health care in this country? What does he want in the bill?" Schultz asked, then declared Obama was backstabbing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and would sell his soul for republican support on health care.

"The White House is backstabbing Harry Reid on the public option," Schultz said emphatically. He added: "I think the president would sell his soul for some republican support at this hour."

Schultz concluded: "Mr. President, don't cave."

I hope this great bloviator is enjoying his dinner of crow tonight. He's one progressive Virginia could do without. Stick to the Baptist sermons, Ed.

Ed -- they're all fvking us, D's and R's. It's all over. This is political theater, and corporations are bankrolling it. It's winter for Poland and France aka the average Americans.

The quest for "bipartisanship" changed the entire debate. All the Republicans had to do was to say No. Instead of providing leadership to push through a public option available to all, Obama increasingly moderated his goals. Ed is right to call for more. We should all be doing the same.

It's really a shame there are so few Democrats in office who have cojones.

i dont but reid's honest desire to do what's right. he is just not that type of leader. what he is; is worried that his political future maybe seeing its end if he doesnt show he cares for a public option in the bill. and obama is just doing what he does best - settle for almost nothing and dissapoint the people who supported him. i hope democrats lose their majority very soon. they are not leaders. i know; the other choice will be republicans; but at least they stand for something and do not play games with their base - they get stuff done.

Yea, they are very good at doing absolutely nothing when they are the minority on the taxpayer dime and destroying the country when they are the majority.

The problem is that we are seeing that Republicans AND Democrats at the national level do not represent the interests of the people. Corporations and the power elite have control of both parties. "We the people" need a President and Congress that represent us and that may mean a serious third party.

Partisan: an adherent or supporter of a person, group, party, or cause

So, for example, someone supporting the eradication of cancer is partisan. Someone supporting the end of poverty is partisan. Someone supporting education for everyone is partisan. Being partisan isn't always a bad thing.

And some of the best things we have done as a country were with a simple majority 51% vote.

If indeed the Republicans make inroads in 2010, it will be because the Democratic party wasn't partisan enough and refused to do the things we voted them in office to do.

A LITTLE SOUL SEARCHING

The GOP represent the upper half of society, those with an ability
to “Achieve†as they call it. So they have all the wealth, and they
feel that all of us below them are a bunch of ingrates.

So that is the bottleneck, so we must either prove to them that
were not a bunch of ingrates or stop being ingrates.

But then we could organize a rebellion, as we are still 50% of society.
But then they rule and surely have a monopoly on the use of force and
violence.

Remember the time when I had just hand planted a field of seedling pine
for Mike, richest man in the county. And as he was writing me a check
the phone rang, and after talking for less than a minute he slammed the
phone down, and in disgust said, “Some people, all they want is something
for nothing.â€

You represent the upper half of society with all the wealth,
I represent the lower half with no wealth, and the issue is,

Would the upper half of society make more money if they
gave government healthcare to the lower half?

I love Ed. I listen to his radio show every day and I do think that the trigger is an absolute joke. But I know this to be fact.

1.) A Health Care Bill will be on the floor of both chambers of congress for the first time ever.

2.) A public option is included in both bills

Now weather or not this is because of Obama or in spite of him or a little of both in some instances those are the facts. So whatever has happened we are in the red zone and I'm withholding judgment until I see the end result.

Without a strong public option, we are just wasting our time. The insurance companies proved they cannot be trusted.

I don't think Schultz understands Obama's negotiating style. One never shoots their whole w/a/d right out of the git-go. Instead, let everyone jump in, show their underbelly and then proceed from there. Strategically is the way it is handled. I don't know where Schultz get's his info on this. Relax, Ed. It's a-comin.

Today is the day to fight back. Ed is right -- either RahmBo is running this show, or Obama truly never wanted the PO to get in the way of bipartisanship. Which means that politics are more important to this White House than relief for the Little People. And the 2010 election is more important. And the corporate money being stuffed into everyone's re-election coffers is more important.

People, we have the phone. Let's use it today.

Call these powerbrokers and politely demand that the Kucinich Amendment for state single payer, which passed committee, BE PUT BACK in HR-3962 (the House's compilation of its three bills).

Nancy Pelosi 202-225-4965
Steny Hoyer 202-225-4131
Henry Waxman 202-225-3976
Charles Rangel 202-225-4365
George Miller 202-225-2095

NOTE: HR3962 not only delays a weak PO until 2013, but it does the same for the abolishment of the "pre-existing condition" clause. This is watered down reform that the Rethugs will take away if they gain control of Congress.

http://healthcare.change.org/blog/view/8_things_you_need_to_know_about_the_new_house_health_reform_bill

We must get on the phone today! We need reform NOW -- not in 2013!
