I can only hope evolution speeds up for the 1950 era scientists. . . 'cloud seeding'. . .man that is myopic thinking. China has embraced our industrial -aged thinking model of 1910 in 2009?

They want what we've had, consequences be damned (an attitude they've also learned from us).

Did Hu Jintao use a magazine when he seeded the clouds? I find that I need visual aids when I seed clouds.

Snowfall stops a beating heart.

i'm really not convinced of the science behind seeding...it was probably going to rain (or snow) anyway.

I was thinking the same thing. I've heard Russia does this too. Man can't leave well enough alone. They're now cloning, producing model babies; gender selection, etc.. Scary...

They began this when I lived in Beijing nearly twenty years ago.

I remember one early attempt when they had it snow three days in a row.

It snows naturally very little in Beijing, and rarely amounts to much.

You obviously do not know what real communism is, as the very essense of real communisim is to have shared communal power...

They most likely used the cheapest source for the snow.... Americo's dollars.

Problem is americans would rather put the blame solely on China. To some people this country can never be at fault. Too them bad things can never happen in america.

Or they just never hear about it. There's still lots of secrecy in our government.

I JUST HOPE THAT THE "ARTIFICIAL CHEMICALS" THAT THEY PUT IN THE CLOUDS WILL NOT CAUSE CANCER IN PEOPLE AND ANIMALS 10 TO 2O YEARS FROM NOW!

Wish the linked article told us how exactly this drought will be minimized by creating snow in freezing conditions?

Snow is made from water. It turns back into water when the temperature rises above 0 degrees C.

I'm certainly glad to learn that the low temperatures and high winds didn't drive the clouds into a supersaturated condition. This would have caused snow fall by natural processes and would have spoiled the experiment.

I always thought the point of cloud seeding was to cause rain or snow outside of the main cities, like the Russians always seed clouds west of Moscow so it's always dry during celebrations. This is a new approach. Let's hope the Chinese don't get carried away because this is expensive.

The people in Beijing believe (probably incorrectly) that the first snow of the season kills all the bugs so you get fewer colds and flu.

It does clear the air. Beijing this morning is bright and sparkling.

To kill bugs you need a cold winter over at least 2-3 months. That's why parts of American has West Nile and more bugs if we have a mild winter.

It is part of their recycling program, they are seeding the clouds with fly ash from the burning of coal to make electricity
