Definition: Kidnapped Shalit is not kidnapped, but captured, given he has been seized during a military action he was participating as a soldier. He is a POW, a prisoner and not an hostage, despite Israeli's propaganda efforts to name things conveniently to Israel.

Anyone supporting the "kidnapped" thing is a plain liar spreading propaganda
12:25 AM on 11/04/2009
Correct. The use of the word "kidnapped" is just more Israeli propaganda.

say it to those who are not on the topic dealing with the - terrorist extremists & illegal colonies- and have written about the "kidnapped" Shalit, the Israeli "pull-out" from Gaza and about how evil are Pals, or on how Americans treated native Indians

This was just an answer to one of those

When you wrote this you weren't on topic either: "And what about the Palestinians killing Israelis before Israel killed those Palestinians on Nov. 4? Don't they count? Don't they matter? Why didn't you mention them?"
Nor was the comment you were answering, but you did it without calling it off topic

So thanks for the demonstration, you react with this off-topic argument because you've no other arguments

acting in this way you demonstrate, as many others around, a lack of respect for other's opinions, you're not honest and everybody can easily check it

Actually, when Israel does something good they should be praised. Now lets see if this is a policy shift and they finally go after the olive tree burners and sniper settlers. How about house demolitions for those settler communities that support this sort of terrorism?

Who knows, if they get in the habit of arresting hate monger bombers well they might finally take a long hard look at some elements of the IDF.

Well put! I am pleased that Israel did this, and pretty cynical that this is the beginning of Israel clamping down on fundamentalist Israeli terrorist groups amongst the settler movement.
11:49 PM on 11/02/2009
I agree. Good on Israel for arresting him.
11:50 AM on 11/02/2009
Israel enforces justice on everyone. I doubt Hamas, Hezbollah or the PA will ever arrest a Muslim terrorist.

On 4 November 2008 Israeli forces attacked and killed six Palestinians inside Gaza, ending the four plus month old Lull Arrangement.

From 19 June 2008, until Israel's 4 November 2008 strike, Hamas "was careful to maintain the cease fire." The Lull reduced rocket launches into Israel from an average of around 380 per month to less than 9.

In September there were four attacks, in October only two and those launchers were arrested by Hamas. Of the small number of rockets and mortars launched during the Lull many, like Islamic Jihad's 24 June launches, were in response to Israel's killing of Palestinians on the West Bank.

Nonetheless, Hamas continued to arrest Palestinian violators of the truce until the 4 November strike.
(from: http://www.themediaoasis.com/Hamasrockets.htm)

So Hamas did arrest terrorists and what happened? Air strikes by Israel, then Operation Cast Lead.

What happened to supporting and praising someone when they do a good thing?

Oh please ...

in August of 2005 every single Israeli pulled out of Gaza.
The border crossings were OPEN in August, September, October, November, December of 2005.
Despite the fact that no Israelis were in Gaza and the fact that the crossings were open and goods were flowing back and forth, Hamas & Islamic Jihad were lobbing rockets indiscriminately at the Israeli civilian population of Sderot and surroundings on a daily basis.
And they weren’t just lobbing them at civilian communities, but were also attacking the crossings
Between September of 2005 and January of 2006 Hamas attacked open crossings no less than a dozen times with RPGs and automatic weapons.
They also attempted 4 suicide bombings at the crossings, with one succeeding –which killed a Palestinian worker waiting to come into Israel for work.
They not only attacked the crossings, but they also attacked the convoys of goods once they were in Gaza, killing the Palestinian drivers on two occasions.
In January of 2006, the crossings were still open but less frequently as a result of increased attacks by Hamas on the crossings themselves and on Israeli cities.

Israel didn’t shut the crossings until after Hamas entered their country, killed 2 soldiers kidnapping a third one –Gilad Shalit who is still being held captive after almost 3 years without any access to the Red Cross or any of the humanitarian organization that Palestinian prisoners are accorded in Israel.
10:11 PM on 11/02/2009
Those Palestinians killed on November 4th were inside a tunnel being dug underneath the border to Israel, presumably to aid in the kidnapping of more Israeli soldiers. This was a clear violation of the cease fire by Hamas, and your claims to the contrary are totally disingenuous. The fact that you omit this essential fact demonstrates (in a similar fashion to your other posts here) your intention to mislead the reader into thinking that Israel just randomly bombed some Palestinians.

Somebody please wake me when the Israeli government arrests itself for it colonization of the West Bank and its continued illegal occupation. It would seem that the real reason they arrested this guy is that they don't want private individuals breaking into the state monopoly of terrorizing the Palestinians besides this guy was doing Palestinians one at a time whereas the government is so much more efficient with the air force dropping cluster bombs they can take out whole blocks at a time.

Maybe because we recognize our own acts against Native Americans that we recognize them in our buddies - the Israelis, besides as much money as we give you on an annual basis, we should have the right to make some comments without you getting your back up - doesn't it hurt to be so self righteous?

Wow .. just terrible misinformed people here spewing agitprop like it was fact ...

Occupation, according to international law, requires two things: 1) de jure sovreignty over a territory by a nation state; and 2) de facto sovereignty by another nation state. Both Jordan and Egypt have renounced sovreignty over the West Bank and Gaza Strip respectively, and those regions are considered, from the perspective of international law, terra nullus. The West Bank and the Gaza Strip are not under occupation. Also, the citizens of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are not Israeli citizens. These 'Palestinian Citizens' actually held Jordanian citizenship for the most part when Jordan stripped them of it. Their 'Palestinian Citizenship' is, from perspective of law, a non-citizenship, because citizenship requires a political state behind it to enforce the rights and requirements of its citizens, which is not the case with the PA.
04:36 PM on 11/02/2009
In 1948 Israel accepted the gift of land from the UN. Those borders, which were accepted, constitute the State of Israel. In 1948 Israel expanded it's borders by 22% by stealing Palestinian land and has continued to steal land ever since. This has nothing to do with security but everything to do with illegally grabbing land. Until Israel withdraws to the 1948 borders there will be no peace.

Can you cite a single credible expert in international law to back up your rather unusual interpretation of international law. It runs counter to the position of the U.S. and just about every other nation and international group I can think of.

Israel gives citizenship to anyone who is a Jew because Jews have the right to return to the land that was taken from their ancestors by the various empires that conquered that land.

Israel needs to continue to crack down on the extremists in their country and out. Ditto for the Palestinians. Once the extremists are out of the picture, peace can follow.

"Teitel was not the first and joins a long list that includes Baruch Goldstein, who gunned down 29 Muslim worshipers in Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs in 1994, Eden Natan-Zada, who killed four Israeli Arabs in Shfaram ahead of the Gaza disengagement in 2005, and the Bat Ayin Underground, which was caught after planting a massive bomb next to an Arab girls school in east Jerusalem in 2002.

A senior Shin Bet official admitted Sunday that there were still many anti-Palestinian terror attacks in the West Bank, including murders, that took place over the past few years that have yet to be solved, meaning that there are likely more Jewish terrorists still at large."

Baruch Goldstein has been elevated to the level of a saint and his crime was widely celebrated by the Jewish residents of Hebron in 1994 and Israelis chanting praise of his crime is a common occurence during football games. Its funny how Hamas only started suicide bombing after the Goldstein incident.
Much of the history of terrorism in today's Middle East has been thrust down the Orwellian memory hole due to the highly effective campaign over the past 50 years to suppress information prejudicial to Israel/US. Blowing up a bus, a train, a ship, a café, or a hotel; assassinating a diplomat or a peace negotiator; killing hostages, sending letter bombs; massacring defenseless villagers; this is terrorism, as we know it. In the modern Middle East it began with the founders of the Jewish State. (Book: 'The Original Sin').
And before th accusations of lying start let me ust point out that many Israeli historians celebrate their history and do not hide the fact that Israel was created by terror tactics.

Good for IZ for being fair about this.
One can't help but imagine what this guy might have done if he had access to the sort of things the Pal extremists have. The results would have been equally horrendous or more so.
Such is the way of extremists no matter which faction they root from.
Which is exactly why justice and retaliation should be limited to just the perpetrators of these acts and not the whole community from which they come.
Maybe there's something to be learned here that could temper the conditioned response to this sort of thing when it comes from somewhere besides an Iz settlement.

Haaratz is now saying that the settler has admitted his involvement in several acts of terror and may be involved in the bomb the attack on a gay nightclub in Tel Aviv. He has admitted an attempt against the life of a left leaning Palestinian leader. Haaratz is generally considered more to the left that other Israeli news sources, sources who have been accused of being shills for the right-wing Israeli government of Bibi Netanjahu, but it's still hard to weight the truth with police and IDF controlling the press releases.

IMHO, it is certain that Netanyahu will exploit every opportunity to justify his highly aggressive strategy in dealing with the Palestinians to a world media become increasingly skeptical.
