The Washington Independent :

It's no secret that national fundraising has buoyed the campaign of Conservative Party candidate for the NY-23 special election Doug Hoffman. But the full extent is remarkable. We crunched the FEC contribution numbers this afternoon to discover that 95 percent of Hoffman's donations came from individuals and PACs based outside of the district. (Hoffman himself doesn't even live in NY-23.) Only $12,360 of the $265,341 he's raised came from potential constituents...

Which shows just how broad his support is.

And that, my friends, is what real American statesmen and patriots do.

They look out for the interests of all Americans - well at least all rich Americans and the big corporations.

We wonder why we are in the mess we're in when most of the comments here are directed at the guys teeth . Well , he just got a job where WE pay for his insurance and it is a plan that will allow for better care than the people who'll pay for it get . That , to me , seems a lot more important than his teeth being yellow in a blurry photo .

What difference does it make where the funds come from? All that maters is that the donations are legal.

This man has red skin and big yellow teeth. Should we be worried?

This election is a perfect example of why no one should be able to contribute to a candidate if that person can't also vote for the candidate. Enacting such legislation would result in a significant reduction in the influence of special interests in elections. It would seem to be an easy piece of legislation to enact and this could be the poster child for it.

God Speed,
David

Most of Ron Paul's money comes from outside as well. Where do most of Obama's and Corzine's come from? Goldman Sachs.

Maybe Hoffman will skim some of that outside money off the top & buy a toothbrush.

I'll bet a substantial number of his votes will come from outside the district too.

whitening ones teeth does not constitute good grooming.
you can whiten your teeth and still have a mouthful of plaque and bacteria.

Could some of these outside supporters for Mr. Hoffman PLEASE offer him some help and advice on teeth whitening? I get sick to my stomach looking at those giant yellow chompers he is sporting.

Bigotry can cause tooth decay, so I hear.

In one sense, Hoffman winning sends a strong message to the GOP that so-called RINOs will not be tolerated by the core base of their party. This has to send some shiver of fear down the spines of the active RINO congressmen and senators that they had better start thinking of their base rather than their pocketbooks growing large from lobbyist money.

I wonder if this trick will work for the DINOs who are holding back health care reform?

It is a fair argument that short turn gains today are long term losses for the GOP.

GOP has long been bought and paid for by lobbyist money. It is the far right, who are entrenched the most. If you don't believe me, simply look at the legislative records for yourself.

Since they are no longer in power, the lobbyists are now turning to the Democrats. The Blue Dogs, who usually side with republicans/lobbyists, are most vulnerable.
