LOS ANGELES — The first interview with Rihanna about Chris Brown's assault on her is airing this week on ABC.

The network says the pop star's one-on-one with Diane Sawyer will air Thursday and Friday on "Good Morning America" and Friday evening on the news magazine "20/20."

Brown's attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna occurred in February. He was sentenced in August to five years' probation, six months of community labor and a year of domestic violence counseling after he pleaded guilty to felony assault.

Rihanna's ABC interview coincides with the debut of her new single, "Russian Roulette," from her upcoming album, "Rated R." It's her first CD since 2007's multiplatinum "Good Girl Gone Bad."

I love that Rihanna is speaking out now. I'm so impressed how she chose to be selfless and leave CB (I won't even say his name..) She's grown and is turning out to be a great role model for young women today.

I love the RIHANNA AMBER ALERT called out on her; back when this happened. It was great foreshadowing of her today! You should definitely check it out!

It looks like she's going to cover-up in an innocent white sweater for her interview. It's apparently all about impression management. After the interview, it's probably back to see-throughs, barbed wire, and bondage ensembles.

Encouraging Chris Brown's behavior by suggesting that she deserved being abused by him for any reason is not helping anyone. That's like saying if a women dresses provocatively she deserves to be raped!!! That kind of thinking doesn't help the victim or the abuser. In most cases abusers were also victims of the same kind of abuse in their own past, as I believe is the case with Chris Brown. Until people make no excuses abusers may never learn to stop and get help they need. He needs to hear from everyone that there is no excuse and to get help or the cycle will continue. Unfortunately, there are going to be these people who are going to support the behavior and make excuses. I am positive that he will be once again in trouble with the law by the time his probation is up. I think that he was trying to get a shorter probation, afraid that he can't last that long without getting into trouble again.

Someone should smack her around for making such lousy music.

Must be time for a new album, so she breaks her silence.

Both these kids were greatly admired by my teen, and since this happened - she's lost all respect for either of them. I'm thankful that neither of them are role models for her any longer.

C'est la vie.

Both Rihanna and Chris Brown were manipulated into maintaining their relationship and manipulated through Browns trial and through this interview.

The manipulation is from their management/record label. Apparantly they were broken up and going their separate ways however both the management teams felt it was bad timing to break up during awards season and forced these two to appear together publicly as a couple. Both management teams knew about the abuse, about the volitile nature of their relationship and did nothing. Make no mistake in the music industry to remain successful for the most part you do what you are told, particularly if your fan base is comprised of teenagers.

Chris Brown is guilty for beating her. According to him he wanted to come clean immediately however was advised against it by his lawyers (there could be a shred of truth to that). According to many reports this relationship was mutually abusive which is simply horrible. Both of them need counseling.

I agree with you, these two were failed by the people around them, their parents, their "friends" and their managament teams. He is a 19yr old kid who was allowed to act as an adult and she probably barely knows how to act like an adult herself. The ability to make money doesn't make you mature, it just means you have a skill which allows you to earn money. They are both damaged and need help.

While I agree with you, after 18 kids making that kind of money will do as they please no matter what family says. People always think that families have such control, but really they don't. Thus they are treated like adults and every takes their share of skin and hopes it all works out.

if she gets on this show and blames the entire event on Chris Brown, her career is over. I agree that he should not have hit her under any circumstances and I mean not even to hit her back, he should have just walked away and never come into contact with her again. But SHE needs to admit that she instigated the fight because of her jealously, anything short of that she will be seen as a liar, she already has a reputation a troublemaker and that she likes to fight, she needs to admit her part and then move on with her life.

whoa... you talk as if you were there and knew exactly what went down. In so much as I agree that she needs to take responsibility for the choices she made ie; poor choice of boyfriend and getting caught up in the anger of the situation... but please... you are making statements about Rihanna as if you know her personally... hearsay is very dangerous.

First of all I never said I was there, were you? Now, with that said:

Out of all the reporting of this incident, Chris Brown has taken the full weight of responsibility for this incident. People posting here, and there have been public statements from other artist in the entertainment industry that borderd on physical threats toward Chris Brown, I heard the audio from the courtroom during the sentencing phase of Chris's trial that he has accepted responsibility, the judge missed an opportunity to order him to go out into the community and do some kind of outreach, she instead brought her personal feelings to the bench it was unfortunate. Rihanna to this day has taken NO responsibility at all, judging from the pictures in tabloids and her recent live public performances she behaves like nothing ever happened. I'm just saying that if she does not acknowledge that she was just as involved the public will let her know by not buying her music and having a negative view of her. It's a good thing she has Jay-Z to lean on, if she was standing alone she would be done. I have a daughter who is a young adult, she has told me that she and her friends will never forgive RiRi for what she has done to Chris.

Okay, if she is giving interviews lets hope she tells the truth. She would do more for young women in abusive relationships if she admits that she too was abusive towards cb and to impart on young woman and men that nobody has the right to hit anybody. I think it stinks that cb has carried the stigma of being an abuser when in fact ms rihanna was the instigator. She needs to tell young girls that if you hit your boyfriend eventually they will hit you back. Tell the truth Rihanna.

She's got a new CD coming out so she's using the only thing that would compel the "news" shows from having her on.

Yet another pathetic ploy from this no-talent.

What she needs is to go away for some deep DEEP psychiatric counseling. Maybe she'll be able to locate a shred of dignity.

The timing is really suspect. She has been promoting her new release that is due to drop mid Nov 23rd.

I have a feeling this is about about management promoting her album. In any event, it is all about the spin and record sales per her mgmt. company.

i shall watch and look forward to any indication that rihanna has any kind of a personality or intelligence.... anything that goes deeper than simply dressing up or taking of her clothes and scowling at a camera.

I hope she tells us how her biggest regret is 'other people' finding out about this whole
thing...especially the coppers.
She would have rathered just put on a face-mask that night (of the incident)
and went along like nothing ever happened.
Okay mabey she would have ignored Chris's calls for a couple days...mabey.
Her image -people are really working overtime to make Rihanna appear like a strong
in-control tough lady...even her new album.
What a cr0 ck.

There's nothing to tune into...she doesnt even talk about it....

Rihanna, , talks about how she coped after the Chris Brown assault in February and all the attention it caused. “I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears,” the singer says in December’s Glamour (out Nov. 10). “That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day.” She adds: “The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard.” Rihanna will be honored at the magazine’s annual Women of the Year event Monday in New York.
“This happened to me. … It can happen to anyone,” the singer, 21, tells Diane Sawyer in an interview airing Thursday on Good Morning America and on 20/20 on Friday. Rihanna says it was particularly difficult because of the special place Brown held in her heart: “He was definitely my first big love.”

That's only a portion of it.
I will be tuning in to hear what she has to say...I really don't care if other people who obviously never even cared for this woman tune in or not.

Hopefully someone who's in an abusive relationship will tune in and get something out of this.

What insight and help has she given?
She's giving interviews to sell her music and make money.
