(AP) SALT LAKE CITY -- A rap by four teenagers at a McDonald's has gotten them a bad rap in one Utah city. The teens were cited by American Fork police earlier this week for disorderly conduct after they rapped their order at a McDonald's drive-through.

The teens said they were imitating a popular video on YouTube. They rapped their order, which begins with, "I need a double cheeseburger and hold the lettuce ..." once quickly before repeating it more slowly.

Spenser Dauwalder said employees at the restaurant told him and his friends they were holding up the line and needed to order or leave.

The 18-year-old said nobody was in line. He and his three 17-year-old friends left without buying anything.

American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow says a manager wrote down the car's license plate number and called police. The teens were later cited by officers at a high school parking lot outside a volleyball match.

"We thought, you know, just teenagers out having fun," Dauwalder told KSL Newsradio. "We didn't think it would escalate to that."

Disorderly conduct citations are issued when someone does something to cause annoyance or alarm, Ludlow said. The citation is an infraction similar to a speeding ticket, Ludlow said.

"It was not just that they were rapping, they continued to hold things up," Ludlow said.

Ludlow said the teens were asked several times to speak plainly and that ultimately the manager came outside.

The owner-operator of the McDonald's said in a statement that the issue was about employees' safety at the restaurant in American Fork, about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.

"The employee in question felt that her safety was at risk as a result of the alleged actions of these individuals in the drive-thru, not as a result of them rapping their order," franchisee Conny Kramer said in the statement. "As such, she contacted the local authorities."

But Sharon Dauwalder, Spenser's mother, said they will fight it nonetheless.

"We have to," she told The Associated Press on Thursday. "The citation is there."

I think this is ridiculous. They say the kids didnt actually order anything to pay for, but were asked to leave.
What if they were going to order something?

I have to say, i think it'd be a hoot if someone came up to a drive-thru and started singing-- totally make my day!

As someone who actually works at a fast food restaurant (yeah, yeah, Im ridiculously young), I sympathize with the employees. there really are a lot of crazy guests who come in and are disrespectful. Many people at the drive-thru aren't even there to actually order food and are just pranking. If we were ever to get a rapping guest, maybe we would't call the cops right away, but we would after they got upset that we're ignoring their 'order'.

Dear Salt Lake City.

Please, try and loosen up just a little bit, huh. If the bar for disorderly conduct were set that low here, they would have to hand out the citations along with your receipt in the sack.

Sincerely,
Memphis

PS: you can't dance either.

Ridiculous. What did they do to make the employee feel unsafe? The employee said that it wasn't that they were rapping. So what then? I'm sorry, but that sounds like a lie. I can't imagine that a jury would even find this a reason to ticket someone, especially when the food chain has commercials doing the same thing and has always had ads targeting at kids in this very same age group.

How would a McDonald's employee react if several kids dressed in bright clothing suddenly appeared at their counter break dancing?

Everyone that orders from a McDonald can now be arrested if they don't ORDER CORRECTLY ??????

What is the PROPER WAY to order a cardboard flavored with grease sandwich ????

How about SANDWICH GREASE ? Is it MAYO, Musturds, or Sugar Sauce, SPICEY SUGAR SAUCE ?

How do you order the LIQUID CANDY ??? Is it COKE or COCOLA, or Pepsi ??

When did McDonalds issue the reqiurments for ordering the stuff they claim is food ??????

Title of story should be : " McDonalds worker feels threatened by Kids ordering food calls Police and has them arrested " !!!!

But then issuing a Ticket to Mcdonalds for a FALSE POLICE REPORT is not gonna happen !!!!

Notice how all these over reaction of the cops or corporations stories always have the same wording?
"Safety, alarmed, endangered, afraid, concerned, protect " are almost guaranteed to show up at least once.
We have become a nation of frightened children. Easy to manipulate, lie to and control.
Grow up.

Years ago a friend grabbed the microphone at a Burger King and sang "hold the pickles etc" and everybody laughed. I hope Glen Beck can shed tears for a 'simpler' time in America.

Apparently, McDonald's is a risk to your kids. They might say something that McDonald's employees would fear and then your kid has his live ruined by the judicial system. My 2 year old could sing "twinkle, twinkle little star" and wind up serving time.

Its best just to avoid McDonald's entirely.
