Carrie Prejean & Miss California Pageant Settle Lawsuits

LOS ANGELES — The legal war between former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean and pageant organizers is over.

A joint statement released Tuesday says Prejean and the organizers of the pageant reached a confidential settlement on dueling lawsuits.

Prejean sued Miss California USA organizers in August for libel, slander and religious discrimination. She accused them of telling her to stop mentioning God even before her controversial remarks against gay marriage.

Prejean was fired in June after pageant officials accused her of missing events, an allegation that she denied. The pageant countersued Prejean last month.

The statement says Prejean and the pageant "wish each other the best in their future endeavors."

The next Miss California USA will be crowned Nov. 22.

The most hilarious result of the Miss USA 2009 marriage question controversy was how it caused the the two sides of an important debate to be represented by the two worst possible spokespeople imaginable. How embarrassing must it have been for same-sex marriage supporters to have the face of their movement become the smirking, insipid vissage of Perez Hilton, perhaps the most irrelevant person alive on this planet right now.
And simply because she expressed opposition to same-sex marriage with her inarticulate answer to Hilton's question, Carrie Prejean became a de facto spokesmodel for conservatives, especially conservative Christians, and that reveals the problem within both sub-cultures. Carrie Prejean clearly doesn't pack the intellectual or moral gear to be a spokesperson for an Indian reservation Bingo hall, let alone a political and religious movement adhered to by tens of millions of people. The problem that conservative Christians have is that they consistently support, endorse, and and entrust their public relations representation to the wrong people for the wrong reasons. Actually if you read it better it says THEY reached an accord. It doesn't mean she got a dime or that they won. For all we know they have a porn flick of her and she settled. Seems to me that if she had a strong case she would have taken it to court and decided not to.
