Car Impoundment Measure Aimed At Illegal Immigrants Flops In Denver

The Denver Post:

A ballot initiative requiring police to impound the vehicles of drivers without valid licenses failed tonight after more than two-thirds of voters opposed it, the Denver Post is reporting.

All but one Denver city councilperson had asked voters to reject the Initiative 300 last month, saying it would cost the city as much as $1.6 million annually and was aimed at punishing illegal immigrants.

An illegal immigrant in Denver with over a half dozen driving infractions, nothing happends, and then kills three including an infant and people still want to play the race card.

The entire situation and council decision is absurd.

Why was it discretionary? Driving unlicensed or DUI twice should result in mandatory impoundment and sale. This sends the wrong message. The new Lexus gets driven home to Centennial by a family member while the old clunker gets impounded. Is that the message we want to send?
