The US House of Representatives has rejected as "irredeemably biased" the findings of a UN-sponsored report which says Israel committed war crimes during its military assault on the Gaza Strip.

The house on Tuesday voted 344 to 36 in favour of a non-binding resolution calling on Barack Obama, the US president, to maintain his opposition to the report, which was written by a panel led by Richard Goldstone, a South African judge.

The report accused Israel and the Palestinian Hamas group, which has de facto control of Gaza, of war crimes during the 22-day conflict in December and January.

But most of its criticism was directed towards Israel's conduct during the offensive, in which human rights organisations say about 1,400 Palestinians - many of them women and children - were killed.

It's too bad the majority of our Congressional leaders are intimidated enough by AIPAC to not even read the Goldstone Report or allow the esteemed judge to testify on the subject on the House floor. Isn't it a conflict of interest when reps who are jewish will never consider that the policies of the Israeli government are oppressive???......seems like misguided loyalty to me.

Well, at least 10% of the UN is there in the interest of all nations.

irredeemably biased towards the truth, that is. A little too much truth for people who are politically and financially invested in covering Israel's crimes regardless of their magnitude.

Once again, the US Congress (except the brave 36) has proved to the American people how they can't, won't & never will stand up to corrupt, foreign interests that threaten the security of everyone in the region.

It is unfortunate to go through the proceedings of U.S. congress these days because without mentioning any hard fact as to why Hon' judge Goldstone's report be considered irredeemably biased is indeed like, after reading the bible top to bottom whole night the person asks "brother who is Jesus?" Such is the standard of the U.S. congress under the Israel's declaration "AMERICA IS CONTROLLED BY WE JEWS" Yes any outsider has started to believe it after seeing the news. on Goldstone's report by US congress side by side they praised the stewardship of AIPAC.

What BS. Download and read the report yourself. Granted, it's 575 pages. But you cannot comment on this issue unless you do. And I read it. Congress should be ashamed of themselves.

What is the matter with our Congress? The world is holding Israel accountable for its egregious acts against the Palestinians. Yet, we say it is biased when a nonpartial party such as the U.N. observes and says there is fault. What would be wrong with Congress supporting such observations and encouraging Israel to to do what is right. Why do we fund such a small nation that for centuries chooses to war with its neighbors. Let them pursue diplomacy without U.S. comment, intervention, or funds.

Thank you for that. Now I see what they're using the wall for...to send the message of their true intentions.

Whether the report is accurate or not we may never know

Requiring documentary evidence and a minimum of three witnesses for Israeli claims, but only one witness for Palestinian claims (As Goldstone, himself, has stated) IS inherently biased

That is nowhere in the report. Israel would not allow Israelis to participate in the process.

If the Democratic controlled Congress cannot recognized the fact that this is a" War Crime", on a captive and occupied populace, commented by the Israeli government, and has the audacity to side with them, then it is the beginning of the end of the democratic party!!

My entire family has moved into the Independent group. Every request from the DNC for another donation goes right into the shredder. Both political parties have failed the American people; tarnished our ideals, never more so than in the case of Palestine.

It is interesting to review the voting record here: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll838.xml
- Goldstone simply confirmed evidence available towards the end of this armed action . We know the disproportionate numbers that were killed. We know neighborhoods were warned in advance of attacks, there is no way out of Gaza, refugees moved to United Nations schools, and NUMEROUS UN schools were targeted by Israeli forces. And then there's the phosphorus. The vociferous defenders of Congress' actions don't cite evidence, simply express the kind of blind faith in our leaders that led us into a war in Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction. Our representatives should know better; maybe they do. What they know is that AIPAC dollars, or at least the donors represented, will be supporting or opposing their campaigns in upcoming elections. This reminds me of the current health care debate... we know how much big dollar donors influence congress, regardless of what polls are telling us American people want, or evidence from virtually every industrialized country about what might be done to control costs and expand health coverage.
- It is truly unfortunate the US "democracy" has become beholden to those with the most dollars. There are signs of a changing tone in US foreign affairs under the current administration, and every American has a stake in this. Much has to be done before we recover our failed international economic and political relationships. This action opposes these changes.

Yes, of course he was biased. He's a pro-Israel zionist. However, his commitment to the truth meant that even when viewed in the light most favorable to Israel, the facts still lead to the conclusion his report was forced to report.

That's shameful. They should damn well say that to Dick Goldstone's face, if they have the brass.
