nytimes.com:

WASHINGTON -- The nation's top military officer said Wednesday that he expected the Pentagon to ask Congress in the next few months for emergency financing to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, even though President Obama has pledged to end the Bush administration practice of paying for the conflicts with so-called supplemental funds that are outside the normal Defense Department budget.

Our country is in dire circumstances right now. Our jobs have been shipped overseas for cheap labor. Millions are unemployed and running out of benefits. Our infrastructure is crumbling around our ears. Our educational system is an abject failure, turning out students that are functionally illiterate. We are paying for TWO unnecessary wars. The banks, credit card companies and Wall Street are draining the economy and holding it hostage. We are paying out 17% of GDP for health care costs, predicted to soon reach 20% or more. The government is spending billions upon billions to keep us from going into complete depression. The costs of goods and services goes higher and higher while wages remain stagnant. Home foreclosures are at record highs.

And the mighty military-industrial complex wants some more money....oh, not much! Just another $100 billion or so. And by all means, let's just pay off the bad guys to convince them not to sh00t at our guys! It worked soooo well in Baghdad!

Well, I say NO MORE!!! NO MORE!! ENOUGH ALREADY!

If the Pentagon really needs more money, they could always start throwing out the cost-plus contractors who are bleeding our public coffers.

Fanned! You hit the nail on the head! I saw a documentary last year that made my bl00d pressure go up 50 points...call "Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers". This movie was running on Cinemax for a time, but I would strongly urge everyone to see it if you can find a copy.

When those contractors would have...say, a truck breakdown...instead of fixing it, they would just leave it out in the desert and buy a new one, knowing that not only would they receive the funds, but make a profit on it! There was NO incentive to save the taxpayer's dollars.

The Pentagon would be wise to START LOOKING for that $2.3 TRILLION that they announced missing on 9/10/01.

No more money. Not for this:

http://rawstory.com/2009/11/ambassador-cia-people-tortured/

The world has already paid enough through blood and treasure so that a handful of rich old men can get their hands on the Trans-Afghan pipeline as well as all of the drug money.

The Pentagon can go straight to hell.

I've got an idea.
Why not ask Ahmed Wali Karzai for the money this time instead of US taxpayers.
After all, we kept his brother in a well paying job and all he has to do is sell off a few truckloads of processed poppy extract.

45,000 people die EACH and every year from lack of healthcare.
Obama decided that the healthcare legislation must be budget neutral.

But, "country building" in Iraq and Afghanistan needn't be budget neutral.

That puts the lives of 45,000 each year in perspective, doesn't it?
Their lives are, obviously, less important than giving Ahmed Wali Karzai money.

It would seem that we need to get our priorities straight. 45,000 American lives each year, or, supporting criminals and "good terrorists" in Kabul.

I agree with you that we need to get our priorities straight.
End this war now. We are one of the "greatest nations" in the world, and we can't even give healthcare to our own. We need to start saving lives here first.

No comments in the piece from Republican leadership. Does the "party of No" become the "party of Yes" now?

Wait... WHAT Republican leadership?

Who are we going to attack now?

Iran through Israel, of course. Also, I'm sure that our puppets in Pakistan and Afghanistan want more money. We could even be paying off the Taliban.

A hundred and thirty billion into two nations that have may be sixty million people. I'm thinking we just divide up the money, cut up some gold and give every one the gold. It would be cheaper then having to keep going to the O'mans lets make money machine every three months.

Another way to look at it is if we just gave half to each country they would have a better operating budget then they normally would have.

A third way would be to just buy a few warlords and have them fight. Could save say a hundred and twenty billion a year this way.

A fourth way would be to tell China that they can have Afghanistan, tell the Afghan leaders that we are allowing China in if we are attacked and then see where the cards fall. I would bet that we could move 90% of out men out, cut funding by 95% and have a peaceful country. We could do the same with India.

The best way is to simply leave. Ya, just start moving men and equipment out. They have a government. They have a military that will not support the US because they know that sometime they will be alone, so we leave. After all it is easier and less costly to just have a major war every decade for seven months then try to win the hearts and minds of any people.
