Jobhunting

What do you do when resume-blitzing, Craigslist-combing and other jobhunting strategies prove fruitless in a dire economy? Star in a music video, naturally.

Atlantic Records recording artist Ryan Star's new single, "Breathe," features real jobseekers in its accompanying music video. The 12 individuals span the gamut of professions, from Jason Gadino, a balloon artist, to Ronald Schmidt, a nurse with 23 years of experience. An English teacher, investment banker, software consultant flight attendant, research assistant and a social worker round out the motley crew.

Prospective employers can actually contact each jobseeker on the "Breathe 4 Jobs" campaign site, giving an interactive twist to the music video.

With the unemployment rate now being reported as over 10%, this new idea of combining entertainment and social awareness in a music video is very timely. Kudos to Ryan Star for taking the time and initiative to showcase this growing problem, and to go so far as to set up www.breathe4jobs.com. I know that several of those featured in the videos have at least been contacted by potential employers, which only proves that we CAN make a difference...it doesn't always take an army. Each of us can help make a change occur. Thank so much for this story on Ryan Star and Breathe4Jobs. On a side note, the song is beautiful, and while it fits very nicely into the concept of the video, it truly is a song that ANYONE can relate to.
