Dimensions of Fort Hood Shootings
Major Nidal Malik Hasan, killed 13 soldiers and injured more than two dozen on November 5 by opening fire on his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood in a US military base, while shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great). After fourteen hours, two people were killed and six were hurt in another mass shooting in the United States in Orlando, Florida. But the deadliest terror-event particular at the US military base is shocking for every one, belonging to any religious community.

Surprisingly, Major Hasan was a liberal and educated American national who was brought up in the modern civilization. One of his relatives remarked that after 9/11 attacks, Hasan, a Muslim, complained of being harassed by some service members for his religion, and he wanted a discharge. While a co-worker told that he had also expressed anger about the US involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he did not want to be deployed to Afghanistan. Hasan spoke of the need for Muslims to “stand up and fight against the aggressor,” and the US.

A "Sleeper" in Fort Hood? Now I'm awaiting that fateful day , during one of his Marxist, Socialist speeches, Obama screams out "Allah Akbar" and then blows himself to pieces on national TV.

The shooter is not dead. He is stable and will be held accountable!

something doesnt make sense to me; its reported that he is the gunman - did he shoot all the ppl killed and injured? his cousin portrays him as someone who didnt want to deploy to iraq/afghanistan, and also he was being harassed for being muslim? what about the the other 2 suspects being held - were they also being harassed and of the same mindset?? im a bit confused, was it an act by a lone gunmen or was it a concerted effort by all three? confused...

I also thought the reporting didn't add up and fished around a little bit and found this -

For instance, the media reported that Hasan was promoted to Major in May of this year. And yet, stories coming from what is passing as his family, the FBI and co-workers state that Hasan had wanted out of the military given the government’s stand on Afghanistan and Muslims.

Co-workers and the authorities have also stated that Hasan had an Internet presence and a Facebook account, and the FBI has him under survailance for the past 6 months for radical anti-American and pro-Muslim writings on his online accounts.

Now, why on earth would the military promote a man who was unhappy, had objected to being in the military, had not wanted to deploy to anywhere outside of the U.S., and who had allegedly made himself a security threat with online radical comments? The answer is they would never promote such an individual, and someone who badly wants out of the military (to the point of offering to pay back medical school costs to the U.S. military, according to Hasan’s Banker aunt). Not only that, if Hasan was truly radical and wanted out he would have never put in for a promotion to Major. But the fact remains he was promoted to Major this year. Try to reconcile those conflicting testimonies and facts.

Even in some best case scenario, in which many people have interesting or relevant information to share about an event, someone needs to act as an organizer of the information, so we don't have the tangle of quasi-advertisements and people just sharing their feelings about an event they're no more involved with than I am.

Selling these tweets as the latest information on Fort Hood is negligant at best.

We come to comment sections prepared for extemporaneous rants, but when HP directs us to a page of tweets labeled "live twiter coverage" if that event, we're not here to see what we saw today or what we say on Tuesday's election night. We want coverage... news from people who know what's going on.

The media needs to stop trying to treat tweets like a short cut to readymade content. A tweet is a data point that needs to be analyzed and put into context, just like any quote from a source, in order to determine its relevance and authenticity.

SOME kind of journalist, perhaps a tweeterist, still needs to do that hard work of cross-referencing and verification and make the professional, experienced, or intuitive decision. Nico Pintne's grueling work on Iran is what I'm talking about, and that's the starting place.

It's a management decision to skip that important process, not an artistic liberty, and it's nothing but an excuse to go without the expense and inconvenience of trained, reliable professionals.

From Twitter I see prejudice and bigotry is alive and well in America. You'd think people were unaware of all the American mass murderers of European dissent, including one who recently served as Vice President.

Give it a rest TechDJ....what happened today was horrific. Try to stay focused.

all the twittering adds nothing. the banality of evil arises when everything is reduced to nanosecond nonnews. hysteria is not history. and, oh yeah, pray for us all.

Regardless of the name, it is premature to be assigning blame to Muslims in general. The shrink may well have been a Muslim, but that does not necessarily mean this was an Islamic attack.

12 more deaths to add to the + million due to Iraq.

If only Americans could show a fraction of the interest in every death in Iraq. The outpouring of hatred is nauseating

What are yu mother teresa, peacemonger? Most Americans are too freakin busy trying to keep a roof over our head and food on the table. No, I don't care about the Iraqi people....and I think we should get out of Iraq and Afghanistan immediately....;and let them slaughter each each other. Bush and Cheney are war mongers to be sure....my concern at the moment is health care reform for all Americans and to rebuild America, not the middle east.

Do you ever get the sense that if tweets were twice as long they would make half as much sense?

That nosense above passing for news does not, in fact, pass for "the latest updates".

It would be a nightmare if we were stuck relying on tweets in a national emergency.
