New York Bar Results Released In Uncertain Economy

Individual results of the New York Bar Exam are being released by email today, to the relief of many newly christened lawyers seeking employment.

The economic recession has only increased the pressure for prospective lawyers waiting for their results. Many have deferred job offers that can be rescinded if they fail and others are unemployed and desperately need results to put on a resume.

The overall bar results, released by the American Bar Association yesterday, are encouraging. 72 percent of those who took the exam passed -- the second highest result ever recorded. First-time test takers who went to ABA-accredited law schools had the highest rate of passage, at 88.2 percent.
