Steve King Doesn't Know Number Of Uninsured In His District: "My District Wants Freedom" (VIDEO)

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) was pressed earlier this week on whether he knew how many constituents in his district were uninsured. The conservative congressman did not appear to know.

The exchange from video of the incident, posted by blogger Mike Stark on YouTube:

"How many people are uninsured in my district?" King was asked.

"My district... The people in my district are calling for freedom," he responded.

According to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, there are 83,000 individuals (15% of the population) without health insurance in King's Iowa district.

When asked the same question a second time, King responded, "I'm telling you I know the answer to this question and it's my people want freedom."

There were seven hundred bankruptcies in King's district last year caused primarily by medical costs.

An adamant health care reform adversary, King will join Rep. Michele Bachmann's "freedom" march today on Capitol Hill to try and "scare Congress" into opposing new legislation.
